Players can try Boothill during the Penacony storyline.

Boothill abilities in Honkai Star Rail explained

Boothill is a five-star Physical character in the Path of The Hunt in Honkai Star Rail. This means he specializes in dealing damage to single-enemy targets. Sushang is the only character that shares Boothill’s element and Path, but she’s a four-star unit.

Here’s Boothill’s full kit:

  • Skullcrush Spurs (Basic ATK) – Deals Physical DMG to a single-target enemy with two hits.
  • Fanning the Hammer (Enhanced Basic ATK) – Deals Physical DMG to a single enemy target with six hits. This attack can’t recover Skill Points and can only target the enemy with Standoff.
  • Sizzlin’ Tango (Skill) – Forces Boothill and a single target enemy into the Standoff state. Boothill’s Basic ATK gets Enhanced, and he cannot use his Skill for 2 turns. The enemy target in the Standoff becomes Taunted. When this enemy target or Boothill gets attacked by the other party in the Standoff, the DMG they receive increases. After the target is defeated or becomes Weakness Broken, Boothill gains 1 stack of Pocket Trickshot and dispels the Standoff. The turn doesn’t end after using this Skill
  • Dust Devil’s Sunset Rodeo (Ultimate) – Applies Physical Weakness to a single target enemy for 2 turns. Then, deals massive Physical DMG to the target and delays their action.
  • Five Peas in a Pod (Talent) – Each stack of Pocket Trickshot increases the Enhanced Basic Attack’s Toughness Reduction by 50%, stacking up to 3 times. If the target is Weakness Broken when the Enhanced Basic Attack is used, based on the number of Pocket Trickshot stacks, deals Break DMG. After winning the battle, Boothill can retain Pocket Trickshot for the next battle.
  • 3-9x Smile (Technique) – After the Technique is used when casting the Skill for the first time in the next battle, it applies the same Physical Weakness to the target as the one induced by the Ultimate for 2 turns.

While Boothill’s abilities look powerful, he’s a risky character to use in the game, like Blade, Arlan, or Jingliu. Taking DMG is almost part of his kit due to Standoff, so you’ll need a good Sustain alongside him to keep him in one piece.

However, considering the new endgame mode coming to HSR to put focus on Hunt units, Boothill might be the right unit to dominate that meta.

On the other hand, when building Boothill, you should focus on improving his Break Effect, CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and Physical DMG, so he can decimate enemies and be a great asset against bosses.

Best Relics for Boothill in Honkai Star Rail

Thief of Shooting Meteor

  • Two-piece bonus: Increases Break Effect by 16%.
  • Four-piece bonus: Increases the wearer’s Break Effect by 16%. After the wearer inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy, regenerates 3 Energy.

Thief of Shooting Meteor is the best Relic set for Boothill in Honkai Star Rail, as it increases his Break Effect twice. What’s more, Boothill can regenerate 3 Energy by inflicting Weakness Break, which is another key element in his kit.

Champion of Streetwise Boxing

  • Two-piece bonus: Physical DMG increases by 10%.
  • Four-piece bonus: After the wearer attacks or is hit, their ATK increases by 5% for the rest of the battle. This effect can stack up to 5 times.

Boothill’s Standoff taunts an enemy target, which means it will attack him on its next turn. Thanks to this ability, you can take advantage of the four-piece set of Champion of Streetwise Boxing to increase his ATK as soon as possible.

The Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations Relic set has a similar effect to Thief of Shooting Meteor, but only on its two-piece set. You could combine that with Champion of Streetwise Boxing or another set, like Musketeer of Wild Wheat, which is pretty standard for damage dealers.

Best Planar Ornament for Boothill in Honkai Star Rail

Talia: Kingdom of Banditry is the only Planar Ornament in Honkai Star Rail that can increase Boothill’s Break Effect. After increasing it by 16%, when Boothill’s SPD reaches 145 or higher, his Break Effect increases again by an extra 20%.

This should be your targeted Planar Ornament, although there are other interesting alternatives.

Firmament Frontline: Glamoth and Space Sealing Station provide similar effects, increasing Boothill’s ATK and DMG. While the Break Effect should be priority, you can also try these out if they suit your playstyle.

Boothill Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
Boothill debuted alongside his five-star Light Cone.

Best Light Cone for Boothill in Honkai Star Rail

Sailing Towards A Second Life

Boothill is a five-star unit in Honkai Star Rail, which means he’s boosted alongside his five-star Light Cone. Sailing Towards A Second Life increases the wearer’s Break Effect by up to 100% for starters. Additionally, the Break DMG dealt by the wearer ignores up to 20% of the target’s DEF. Then, when the wearer’s Break Effect in battle is at 150% or greater, increases their SPD by up to 20%.

This is exactly what you need for Boothill’s abilities to shine in battle, so you should consider getting his premium Light Cone while you can. Of course, there are other alternatives as well.

Cruising in the Stellar Sea

This Light Cone increases the wearer’s CRIT rate by up to 16% and their CRIT rate against enemies with HP less than or equal to 50% by an extra 16%. Then, when the wearer defeats an enemy, their ATK is increased by up to 40% for 2 turns. Most Hunt Light Cones increase the wearers CRIT Rate or DMG, but Cruising in the Stellar Sea is the best suited for Boothill.

Swordplay

Sushang’s Light Cone is another good option for Boothill. For each time Boothill hits the same target, DMG dealt increases by up to 16%, stacking up to 5 times. This can be easily triggered with Standoff, but it’s worth noting that this effect will be dispelled when Boothill changes targets.

Best teams for Boothill in Honkai Star Rail

Boothill is a DPS in Honkai Star Rail, and since his abilities rely on Break Effect, you should pair him with Gallagher, Ruan Mei, and the Harmony Trailblazer.

Ruan Mei enhances the team’s Break Effect, while the Harmony Trailblazer adds Super Break DMG to the equation. On the other hand, Gallagher can increase the Break DMG enemies receive while healing allies at the same time, which is ideal for this team.

If you’re going for a free-to-play composition, you can replace Gallagher with either Natasha or Lynx and Ruan Mei with Asta. While Asta can’t increase Boothill’s Break Effect, she can provide SPD boosts to make him attack more often.
