Firefly abilities in Honkai Star Rail explained
Firefly is a Fire element character in the Path of The Destruction in Honkai Star Rail. This means she deals massive Fire DMG to single-enemy targets and AoE.
Here are all of Firefly’s abilities in Honkai Star Rail:
- Order: Flare Propulsion (Basic ATK) – Deals Fire DMG to a single enemy.
- Firefly Type-IV: Pyrogenic Decimation (Enhanced Basic ATK) – Restores 20% of Max HP. Deals Fire DMG to a single enemy.
- Order: Aerial Bombardment (Skill) – Consumes 40% of SAM’s Max HP and regenerates a fixed amount of Energy. Then, deals Fire DMG to a single target enemy. If the current HP is not sufficient, then SAM’s HP is reduced to 1 when using this ability. Enables this unit’s next Action to be Advanced by 25%.
- Firefly Type-IV: Dying Star Overload (Enhanced Skill) – Restores 25% of Max HP. If the enemy does not have Fire Weakness, implant Fire Weakness on a single enemy for two turns. Deals Fire DMG to a single enemy and less DMG to adjacent enemies.
- Firefly Type-IV: Complete Combustion (Ultimate) – Enters the Complete Combustion state, Advances Forward this unit’s Action by 100%, and gains Enhanced Basic ATK and Enhanced Skill. In this state, SPD increases. When using Enhanced Basic ATK and Skill, increases DMG dealt to Weakness Broken enemies and Weakness Break Efficiency, lasting until the current attack ends. A Complete Combustion countdown appears on the Action Order bar. When the countdown’s turn begins, SAM exits the state. The countdown has its own fixed SPD of 70. When in Complete Combustion, SAM cannot use the Ultimate.
- Chrysalid Pyronexus (Talent) – The lower the HP, the less DMG received. When HP is 20% or lower, the DMG Reduction reaches its maximum effect (up to 44%). During Complete Combustion, the DMG Reduction remains at its maximum effect, and the Effect RES increases by up to 34%. If Energy is lower than 50% when the battle starts, regenerates Energy to 50%. Once Energy is regenerated to its maximum, dispels all debuffs on this unit.
- Δ Order: Meteoric Incineration (Technique) – Leaps into the air and moves without restrictions. Lasts for five seconds and can be ended prematurely via Basic ATK. When the duration ends, SAM descends and immediately attacks all enemies within a set area. When each wave begins, implants Fire Weakness on enemies without it for 2 turns. Then, deals Fire DMG to all enemies.
Firefly/SAM is an extremely powerful character with a huge synergy with many other units. Players have already faced the powerful mecha as a boss, so they know how some of her abilities work in the game.
You should keep an eye on Firefly’s ATK stat as well as her Break Effect to enhance her kit. You can also improve her SPD with Relics to make her participate more in battle. This will help you trigger Complete Combustion often.
Best Relics for Firefly
Iron Cavalry Against Scourge
- Two-piece bonus: Increases Break Effect by 16%.
- Four-piece bonus: If the wearer’s Break Effect is 150% or higher, ignores 10% of the enemy target’s DEF when dealing Break DMG to them. When the wearer’s Break Effect is 250% or higher, the Super Break DMG they deal to enemy targets additionally ignores 15% of the targets’ DEF.
The new Iron Cavalry Against Scourge Relic set debuted alongside Firefly in Honkai Star Rail. It’s clearly made for her, as it helps you improve her Break Effect to reach its maximum and deal tons of DMG with any of her abilities.
You can get this Relic set in the new Cavern of Corrosion located at Penacony’s Grand Theater.
Thief of Shooting Meteor
- Two-piece bonus: Increases Break Effect by 16%.
- Four-piece bonus: Increases the wearer’s Break Effect by 16%. After the wearer inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy, regenerates 3 Energy.
Thief of Shooting Meteor is one of the easiest Relic sets to get in HSR, so you can try it until you get Iron Cavalry. This set also enhances Firefly’s Break Effect, and you can even regenerate Energy with it to unleash her Ultimate faster.
Firesmith of Lava-Forging
- Two-piece bonus: Increases Fire DMG by 10%.
- Four-piece bonus: Increases the wearer’s Skill DMG by 12%. After unleashing Ultimate, increases the wearer’s Fire DMG by 12% for the next attack.
On the other hand, if you’re looking to improve Firefly’s DMG output, you can go with Firesmith of Lava-Forging. Thanks to her kit, you’ll be triggering its effect pretty much constantly, so you’ll deal lots of Fire DMG to enemies.
Best Planar Ornament
Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern is a new Planar Ornament that debuted alongside Firefly in Honkai Star Rail. It’s tailor made for her, as it increases her SPD by 6% for starters, and when she hits enemy targets with Fire Weakness, her Break Effect increases by 40% for one turn. These are the stats you want to improve, so this should be your go-to Planar Ornament.
Alternatively, Talia: Kingdom of Banditry is the only other Ornament that can enhance Firefly’s Break Effect. This set increases her Break Effect by 16%, and when her SPD reaches 145 or higher, her Break Effect increases by an extra 20%. You can easily trigger this effects with Firefly’s abilities, so it’s a great option.
Best Light Cones
Whereabouts Should Dreams Rest
As every five-star Honkai Star Rail character, Firefly debuted alongside her signature Light Cone, so you should try to get it while you can. Whereabouts Should Dreams Rest increases her Break Effect by 60%, which is already a lot. Then, when Firefly deals Break DMG to an enemy target, inflicts Routed on the enemy for two turns.
Targets afflicted with Routed receive 24% increased Break DMG from the wearer of the Light Cone, and their SPD is lowered by 20%.
Of course, this works very well with Firefly, especially when she’s on the Complete Combustion state. However, it’s also a great Light Cone for other Destruction characters like Xueyi.
On the Fall of an Aeon
This Light Cone increases the wearer’s ATK by up to 16% in a battle every time the wearer attacks. This effect can stack up to four times, but that’s not all. After a character inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy, the wearer’s DMG increases by up to 24% for two turns.
This is great for Firefly, but keep in mind not everything you equip her with should focus on the same stat. So, if you already enhanced her ATK with Relics and Planar Ornaments, you might want to focus on her Break Effect or SPD with the Light Cone.
Flames Afar
When the cumulative HP loss of the wearer during a single attack exceeds 25% of their Max HP, or if the amount of their own HP they consume at one time is greater than 25% of their Max HP, immediately heals the wearer for 15% of their Max HP. At the same time, increases the DMG they deal by up to 50% for two turns.
While this effect can only be triggered once every three turns, it’s ideal for Firefly, as she’ll be triggering it every time she uses her Ultimate.
Best Honkai Star Rail teams for Firefly
The best Honkai Star Rail team for Firefly should always include the Harmony Trailblazer, as they can enhance her Super Break DMG. Then, with Firefly as your main DPS, you should complete the team with a healer and another support character.
If you’re going for a free-to-play composition, Asta is great to enhance Firefly’s SPD, while Natasha or Lynx are great healers to keep around.
If you pulled some five-star units, Ruan Mei is great for this team, as she can also improve the team’s Break Effect and duration of Weakness Break. Lastly, Gallagher can also add some more Break Effect, so you can set him as your healer.
