How Killstreaks affect Scorestreaks in Black Ops Cold War

Here’s how much score you earn for going on Killstreaks in Cold War, and how this relates to earning Scorestreaks.

Published

on

Black Ops Cold War introduced a new Scorestreak system where points are not reset on death, and Killstreaks increase the score earned.

In the new Scorestreak system, points earned are not reset on death. This means that as long as you earn a certain amount of points over the course of a match, you can earn Scorestreaks.

To keep the new system rewarding, Treyarch have integrated the Killstreak system into it.

On top of the standard score per kill (e.g 50 in Domination and 100 in Free for All), an additional score is now earned for Killstreaks, which multiplies with each consecutive elimination. Every five kills in a row will also net you bonus points.

As this is a brand new system, it can be confusing. The score earned for playing the objective pales in comparison to points earned for Killstreaks. There is currently no such multiplier for playing the objective.

As Treyarch hasn’t explained the score multiplier in-depth, we’ve detailed exactly how much score you are earning for your streaks.

1-10 Killstreak

The more kills you have in the 1-10 Killstreak range, the more points you earn. Going on a 5 kill streak gives you an additional 500 points, and if you make it to 10, you get a whopping 2000 points.

The majority of Scorestreaks are included through getting up to 10 kills in a row. Getting 10 kills in a single life will net you everything up to the Attack Helicopter.

  • 2 kills +50
  • 3 kills +50
  • 4 kills +50
  • 5 kills +500
  • 6 kills +300
  • 7 kills +350
  • 8 kills +400
  • 9 kills +450
  • 10 kills +2000

11-20 Killstreak

Once you hit a 10 Killstreak, the subsequent points earned are huge compared to the lower streaks. For most of the kills in this range, you will earn 500 additional points per kill. For 15 and 20 kills, you will earn 2000 points.

In this range of streak, you’ll be able to unlock the high-end Scorestreaks such as the Chopper Gunner, VTOL Jet, and Gunship.

  • 11-14 kills +500
  • 15 kills +2000
  • 16-19 kills +500
  • 20 kills +2000

21-30 Killstreak

Killstreaks over 20 kills earn you an incredible amount of points. Once you get over 20 kills in a single life – aside from re-earning your Scorestreaks – it’s time to go for the Nuclear Medal. Once you earn 30 kills with weapons and equipment, you will unlock the ultimate bragging right.

  • 21-24 kills +500
  • 25 kills + 2500
  • 26-29 kills +500
  • 30 kills (Nuclear) +3000

Every kill after the Nuclear gives an additional 500 points per kill.

Now that you know how much score it is for each streak, pick the streaks you’re most likely to earn. But don’t be afraid to try out for higher Scorestreaks; you never know when the next great game will come along.

Swiss K31 in Cold War

Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 3 will be introducing a new sniper, the Swiss K31, so here’s how you can get your hands on this new bolt-action rifle.

Season 3 of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone has officially been revealed. On top of new maps and Operators, players can bolster their arsenal with new weapons – the legendary Ballistic Knife, classic PPSH, and the all-new Swiss K31 Sniper Rifle.

The Swiss K31 follows Season 2’s ZRG 20mm Sniper Rifle, but appears to be the polar opposite. While the ZRG is heavy, powerful, and slow, the K31 is described as having “exceptional accuracy, as well as fast rechamber and aiming speeds with a large ammo capacity.”

Here’s how to unlock this new, fast Sniper Rifle in Cold War and Warzone Season 3.

Players can get their hands on the Swiss K31 Sniper Rifle by simply reaching Tier 31 in the Season 3 Battle Pass. And if you miss out on it in Season 3, it will be available later through a challenge.

You don’t have to pay anything either. The weapon is included as part of the free version of the Battle Pass, so simply play games, rack up Scorestreaks, score Warzone Victories, and you’ll have your hands on it in no time.

This is the second weapon you’ll unlock in the Battle Pass, as the PPSH will be unlocked at Tier 15. These weapons aren’t all there is though as the Ballistic Knife will also be included when the season begins, likely locked behind a challenge.

BOCW and Warzone Season 3 road map

Following Cold War’s integration with Warzone, the K31 will be available in both battle royale and multiplayer. The devs described how, “Aggressive sharpshooters will be in their element with this new rifle, whether it’s sniping out in the wilds of Warzone or pushing forward on objectives in Black Ops Cold War.”

The Kar98k has long dominated Warzone as the aggressive sniper, but it’s possible the Swiss K31 will take its spot in the sniping meta.

Cold War devs respond to issues with PlayStation 5 controller

If you’ve ever had issues connecting your PlayStation 5 controller to your PC to play Cold War, then this dev response should clear it up.

One of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s devs has cleared up an issue regarding the use of PlayStation 5 controllers on PC.

PCs are normally very accommodating when it comes to supporting different controllers. Whereas the conventional setup revolves around a comfy mouse and keyboard, most PCs allow users to mix and match.

In the same way that you can use a game controller to play CoD: Mobile, you can also play Black Ops Cold War using different PlayStation and Xbox controllers. However, a complaint about the use of PS5 controllers on the PC version has prompted a response from Treyarch.

Treyarch Community Manager Josh “FoxhoundFPS” Torres is a reliable source of feedback who regularly engages with the player base to assist with any persistent matters to do with CoD: Cold War.

He recently engaged in a back-and-forth with a Black Ops Cold War player who was dissatisfied about the game’s reported inability to cater for PlayStation 5 controllers.

The original question asked, “Will you guys ever fix controller input on PC? Trying to use my PS5 controller on Cold War but it won’t let me change it. It’s locked.”

An ensuing exchange took place to try and reach the bottom of things until Josh found out some vital information regarding PS5 controllers on PC.

So for the time being, PC players are unable to play CoD: Black Ops Cold War using a PlayStation 5 controller.

We are still only a few months removed from the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, so it’s understandable if additional controller compatibility hasn’t been at the top of the priority list.

It’s safe to assume that by raising this query, PC players with PS5 access can expect to be able to use their PS5 controllers on PC sooner rather than later now. In the meantime, CoD players can still enjoy the new Season 3 content in the normal way.

A returning legend is coming to Season 3 of Black Ops Cold War with the PP-SH41. The devastating SMG can rip enemies apart in seconds, and these are the unlock requirements for it in Call of Duty.

It’s almost like Christmas Day when the next season of content is announced for Call of Duty. After the official Roadmap for Season 3 was revealed, one tasty proposition is the forthcoming return of the PPSH.

The SMG has tore up CoD games for years with its insanely-high rate of fire, and it could be a legitimate meta-changer for Cold War and Warzone Season 3.

As with every new Season of modern Call of Duty games, we usually get a new gun or two, new maps, and a new Battle Pass to complete.

Nothing has changed in this regard for Season 3, and players will be pleased to know that the PPSH can be in their loadouts very quickly.

To unlock the PPSH-41, players will simply need to reach Level 15 in the Battle Pass. Don’t want to pay for the Battle Pass? Not a problem because just like with the MAC-10 from Season 1 and FARA-83 from Season 2, the PPSH is a free Tier for players to earn naturally.

There are no pay-to-win elements here, and everyone will be able to unlock and use the SMG when they’ve reached the required level.

Also, because the same XP is tied to both Cold War and Warzone, the good news is that you can unlock the PPSH-41 on either game. So you can pick your poison and choose which game will be easier for you to get to Level 15 quicker.

The PPSH-41 has featured in many previous Call of Duty games including the original titles, World at War, and most recently, the Black Ops titles.

Season 3 of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will go live on April 22, and players can get stuck into unlocking the PPSH-41 as soon as possible!
