Fighting game fans have been sinking their teeth into MultiVersus as the new title continues to generate quite the buzz. Here’s a look at how many people play MultiVersus in 2022.
MultiVersus is a brand-new platform fighter that launched its beta in July 2022. Not only is the game free-to-play, but it’s what’s known as a crossover fighter, akin to Super Smash Bros, that allows players to choose between several well-known characters.
Fan favorite playable characters like Batman, Bugs Bunny, The Iron Giant, and even LeBron James have led to a ton of excitement for the game. Even before MultiVersus Season 1 the player base was huge, but now the update is out and more content has been revealed, the number is only going to rise.
Here’s a breakdown of how many people have played MultiVersus since its launch.
How many people play MultiVersus?
As of August 22, MultiVersus has reached over 20 million total players. This is an incredibly impressive accomplishment for such a young game only in its first season.
These numbers were announced by the president of Warner Bros. Games, David Haddad, as he stated, “MultiVersus is such an important critical step into that free-to-play, high-definition gaming category that we believe we can really do something meaningful, in this case with a collection of our IP, and building a game from scratch that’s designed for live services and cross platform. And we’re thrilled to see by the 20 million that fans are really responding to it.”
Given the diverse array of characters and licenses involved in the project, it’s natural that the game is getting compared to Super Smash Bros. However, it truly brings something different to the table as players are enjoying everything that major publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is bringing to the table.
The fledgling game even earned a spot at EVO 2022, the legendary fighting game tournament. MultiVersus early involvement at EVO has undoubtedly brought more players to the game, and given its free-to-play nature, it’s difficult to ignore.
The current cast of characters truly blends pop culture worlds with so many incredible choices. In addition, it’s already been confirmed that more characters are on the way. Season 1 introduces players to Rick and Morty, Black Adam, and Stripe from Gremlins. Season 2 will no doubt bring even more, so there’s a lot for players to be excited about.
Continued dev support from Player First Games is going to be vital in keeping the game thriving with new updates and fixes. With the feedback received from MultiVersus’ early days, the devs could ensure that 2022 continues to be a major year for the new title.
