One common Modern Warfare error can leave you in the “searching for a match” screen for a long while, and here’s how you can fix it.

How to fix the "searching for a match" error

You’ll be eager to join a new game right away when playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but a match error is causing players to keep waiting for longer periods in the lobby. Here’s how you can fix this issue.

Call of Duty players are not strangers errors that ruin their game, like the Bravo 433 Destructive Gator error code, in Black Ops Cold War. Modern Warfare players are still suffering from Error Code 38, as well as another annoying bug.

If you’re looking for a new session, you might find yourself stuck on a screen with the message “searching for a match” being displayed. If you don’t want to keep waiting for long, here are all the solutions you can try in Modern Warfare.

How to fix “searching for a match” error in Modern Warfare

Enable Crossplay

Enabling Crossplay in Modern Warfare

You might find yourself stuck in the searching for a match” screen because there aren’t enough available players for a game on your platform of choice. If you have a Call of Duty account, then you can enable Crossplay.

If your gamertag is linked with your CoD account, then you can get this done the next time you log into Modern Warfare. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Launch Modern Warfare
  • Go to settings
  • Navigate to the Account tab
  • Change Crossplay from “Disabled” to “Enabled”

That’s all you need to do to enable Crossplay in Modern Warfare. This will widen the search on other platforms, which will increase your chances of finding enough players for a single match. Be sure to enable Crossplay Communication from the same tab.

Select ‘QUICK MATCH’ with no filters

because the game is taking a while to find enough people for match. This could be because of the filters you’ve enabled, along with the chosen game mode.

You can resolve this problem by disabling all of the filters and using the “QUICK MATCH” option. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Head to the Multiplayer screen
  2. Move down to QUICK PLAY under “Play”
  3. Move to the right of that option, and you’ll see the filters
  4. Select it, and you’ll see all the different filters that enabled by a gold checked circle
  5. Disable as many as you can, and then return to the previous screen to start the match

Restart the game or console

Captain Price in Modern Warfare

This is the most common fix for software and hardware problems on every platform. If the game is still keeping you stuck on that screen, then you should try shutting it off, and then restarting it.

if you’re a console player then the problem could be a missing update that you can’t see, so try restarting your console if the problem persists. This will either fix it, or make the missing update show up.

To hard restart Xbox consoles:

  1. Hold down the power button until the Xbox completely shuts down.
  2. Release the power button.
  3. Disconnect the power cable.
  4. Wait five minutes.
  5. Plug the power cable back in.
  6. Turn your Xbox back on.

Completely restarting the PlayStation is much simpler:

  1. Hold down the power button for 5 seconds until the PlayStation completely shuts down.
  2. Wait a few seconds.
  3. Press and hold the power button until the PlayStation turns back on.

Check if the servers are up

If these solutions haven’t solved the problem, then the game’s servers might be down for maintenance. You can try checking out the status of the servers on the Activision website while you wait.

Hopefully, the servers will then come back online soon enough, and you won’t have to deal with the “searching for a match” screen when you log back in.

Why is Modern Warfare so big? Huge file size explained

Modern Warfare requires a whopping 175GB, but why? Here’s everything we know about the game’s massive file size.

Modern Warfare has been out for almost two years, and after continuous updates, the game takes up a huge amount of space. Here’s why Modern Warfare’s file size is so huge.

Modern Warfare started life with a massive 175GB requirement to store on drives, making it one of the biggest games ever. While fans assumed that Infinity Ward would work to greatly reduce this number, continuous updates have pushed it higher and higher, and despite their best efforts, it still takes requires the same space as it did at launch.

Obviously, this is a huge amount of space for a game to take up, so players have been trying to figure out why it needs to take such a significant chunk of your drives. Here’s everything we know about why Modern Warfare is so big.

Why does Modern Warfare take up so much space?

File size has always been an issue for Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare. Back in February 2020, one of the game’s producers apologized on Twitter about the size of updates, saying that the team were “constantly trying to fight back against both download size and disk footprint,” as they dropped asset packs to try and reduce the overall size.

The devs tried again in March 2021, reducing the game by 30.6GB, but that just brought it back to 175GB, and still suggested it would need more for mandatory updates.

As for why it’s so large, Infinity Ward have never said officially, but there are plenty of theories. In general, the most accepted idea is the fact that Modern Warfare has too many assets. Some players suggest that holding the cosmetics from the store along with un-compressed textures for maps are what cause these issues, while others believe that Infinity Ward simply didn’t do enough to compress the game down.

Thankfully, there are some ways to bring this number down a little. If you don’t play Modern Warfare multiplayer much, you can choose to delete the game without losing Warzone, while you can choose to uninstall specific portions of the game if you no longer play that mode.

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Infinity Ward will reduce the file size any further now, with the game rapidly approaching it’s second birthday. We can only hope that the developers learn some lessons from this game, and their next offering isn’t so hard-drive hungry.

Here are some of the ways you can fix the “disconnected due to transmission error:”

  1. Restart the game
  2. If that doesn’t work, change the NAT type to open on your router.
  3. Go to UPnP in router settings and enable the option.
  4. Save your settings and restart the router.

If this still doesn’t fix your issue, try deleting and redownloading the game to get rid of any possibly corrupt data.

Further, if you’re on PlayStation, try rebuilding your database, and if you’re on Xbox, turn Teredo Tunneling on in the settings.

Hopefully, this can resolve your issues with the transmission error and get back on the battlefields of the two popular Call of Duty games, as it seems that every new update brings another host of errors and issues.

Call of Duty Activision accounts are regularly subjected to theft and hacking, so our guide seeks to help you reclaim stolen CoD accounts, plus we have some other useful methods to keep your account secure and safe.

Whether it’s issues with Call of Duty’s servers, cheating, or the Black Ops Cold War and Warzone stores, there are always problems that need to be tended to. Regardless of the size and wealth of the company, it’s presumably always going to be hard to keep on top of everything.

But questions have been raised about Activision’s ability to restore stolen Call of Duty accounts and provide support to those players. Thankfully, there are various ways to try and reclaim your account, and also ways to protect it from falling into the wrong hands.

Many people complain about their Call of Duty account being hacked and/or stolen in whichever CoD title they’re playing.

Players lose access to their data, and most importantly their CoD Points and any purchased bundles or cosmetics. But there is an official process that players need to go through for Activision to be able to take the appropriate action.

To begin proceedings to retrieve your account, you’ll need to contact Activision Support here.

It could take anywhere between 4-10 days for a response on average but maybe longer. This is reasonable given the large volume of queries that Activation presumably deals with on a daily basis.

Another solution you can try to speed things up yourself is to try and contact a member of Activision’s support team directly.

To do this, you’ll need to complete the following:

  1. Head to Activision’s ‘Support’ page
  2. Selection an option from “I need help with”
  3. Find one that allows you to “Submit a ticket” or will connect you to an advisor to help you personally

Two-Step Authentication CoD Account

If you’ve been successful in retrieving your Activision Account or just want to know how to make it more secure, then it would be wise to enforce Two-Factor Authentication.

It’s now a given to see Two-Factor Authentication across the industry to protect accounts across all forms of media. It’s safe, secure, and easy to protect your account.

Here’s what you’ll need to do to activate Two-factor Authentication for your Activision Account:

  1. Head to Activision’s Two-Factor Authentication page
  2. Click ‘Set up Two-Factor Authentication’
  3. Sign in to your account, if you haven’t made one then do so
  4. Download the ‘Google Authenticator app’ for your phone or tablet
  5. Scan the QR Code using the app’s scanner
  6. Enter the Authentication Code for the App
  7. Press to complete the process

Now you have a secure setup that only you should be able to access.

It’s understandable that players will be frustrated with Activision for not responding to their queries as they want their account back.

At the same time, there are millions of accounts spread across Cold War, Warzone, CoD: Mobile, and Modern Warfare, with potentially multiple questions per player.
