How to fix the code: leaf error in Apex Legends
Apex Legends players frequently have to deal with the code: leaf error, which prevents them from entering matches and enjoying the game. There are a few steps that you can follow to fix it.
There are always some technical issues that you come to expect when playing online games, such as connection problems, server disconnects, and bugs. These can be annoying, and Apex Legends players have experienced their fair share.
Ever since the battle royale went live back in February 2019, the most frequently-faced issue among fans has been the code: leaf error, which keeps them from joining matches with a message that reads “connection to the server has timed out.”
Fortunately, Respawn gave us an explanation about the cause of this error, and there’s a method that you can follow to fix it by yourself.
Fix the Apex Legends code: leaf error
Due to the frequency of this error popping up, fan complaints were able to reach the developers who then revealed that it’s actually a backend issue during a Reddit check-in back in 2019.

You should try restarting both your gaming device and Wi-Fi router before logging into another online game to make sure that the issue is with Apex Legends and not your connection. If the problem persists, then you can still fix the issue by following a few simple steps:
- Launch Apex Legends
- Hold down the right analog stick to access the data center (PC players can select “Data Centers” on the bottom right-hand side of the menu)
- Join a server with low ping and then enter the match
Now, keep in mind that this won’t work every single time, but it’s a solution that has shown some degree of success for players. Otherwise, you could always try switching accounts as that has been reported to make the error disappear.
If none of these solutions worked out for you, then it’s probably a backend error with the servers. In which case, you’ll just have to wait for Respawn Entertainment to come up with a patch that will get rid of the issue.
You can take a look at the Apex Legends Twitter page for updates about any bug fixes that Respawn are planning to roll out. We hope this guide has helped you understand why the code: leaf error occurs, and how to fix it.
