Your very first decision you’ll have to make will affect how the rest of your experience with Cyberpunk 2077 plays. So make sure you’re well-informed and make the right choice.
Cyberpunk 2077 has different paths that you can choose your character to go down. The obvious caveat is that you can only choose one, and whichever one you choose will influence how the story and other variables play out.
So we want to help you better understand the differences between each path you can choose in CD Projekt Red’s new title. Understand how each one works, what it’ll do, and leave you with a more satisfying decision.
The world of Night City revolves around certain social classes and your Lifepath will determine which background you will come from.
It will alter your prologue, your dialogue options, your story, and the characters you meet and become familiar with. Here’s everything you need to know.
You are taking over the reins of a business expert. You’ve spent your life tucked away in the skyscrapers of multi-million businesses and dined at high prices regularly.
You’ll be much better at dealing with negotiations, opening up powerful people, and be able to see through the lies told by business people. The downside of course is that everything outside of Night City is unknown, Nomads are on a different planet to you and you will definitely have a harder time out there.
It’s the hard-knock life, for you. City life is just completely foreign to you as you’ve grown up outside of Nighty City going from place-to-place in the Badlands. A desert-like wasteland that serves only to connect to the City’s outskirts.
You bond with “lesser” people will be stronger as you’ll be more resourceful and wily, but it also means that you’ll have a harder time opening people up of a higher class in Night City.
If you want absolute neutrality, then Street Kid is for you. You’ve been lucky enough to avoid the bleak harshness of the Badlands, but you’ve also had to scratch and claw on the less-fortunate streets of Night City.
You will have a good knowledge of the city and how to interact with most people – and in particular gangs. However, you will still be considered a bit too upper-class for the traveling Nomads and you’ll be too low down to be humored by the Corpos.
So as you can see, there isn’t one clear and obvious choice that will make you universally loved by everyone. Whatever you choose will leave you disliked by some people, but one of the key aspects of Cyberpunk 2077 is its story.
Each of these backgrounds feels unique and has significance, the only question is, which one will you pick?

CD Projekt Red releases mod tools for Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red has released mod tools for Cyberpunk 2077, shortly after the release of patch 1.1. It’s only a matter of time before we see Cyberpunk mods.
CD Projekt Red has finally released mod tools to the public for Cyberpunk 2077.
Today, January 26, 2021, CD Projekt Red has released mod tools for PC owners of Cyberpunk 2077, days after their first major patch for the game. This is the first step of their long-planned journey to fix the game and add more content.
In addition to the tools, CD Projekt Red has also promised continued updates to the mod tools as more patches are released for the game.
As of now, only basic mod tools have been released, and the capabilities of the tools will remain unknown until modders begin to experiment with the technology.
The tools available are as follows:
- ArchiveDump – A utility for listing contents of game data archives
- TweakDump – A utility for listing contents of game Tweak DB (game settings) binaries
With these tools, there is also a separate Metadata download. You can download the tools for yourself here, but we only recommend doing so if you have experience with modding games or programming.
With the release of the mod tools, it’s only a matter of time until the true capabilities of the modding scene are realized.
Perhaps, players can fix bugs themselves, or even overhaul the buggy AI. With fixes for the game potentially trailing well into 2022, it isn’t outside of the realm of possibility that players beat CD Projekt Red to the punch with bug fixes.
We’ll be sure to update if any additional mod tools are released.
Cyberpunk 2077 players reportedly getting refunds and keeping the game
Players are starting to see refunds for their Cyberpunk 2077 purchases, CD Projekt Red have yet to request that they return physical copies.
Players are now starting to see refunds for their physical purchases of Cyberpunk 2077, but aren’t being asked to return their game copies.
The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has been nothing short of a disaster for gamers and developers at CD Projekt Red, especially on consoles.
Due to the horrible console launch, CD Projekt Red offered refunds to players who purchased physical copies of the game before December 21, 2020, and refunds are now being sent out to players via multiple methods of payment, including PayPal.
In an interview with Vice, an owner of the $250 collectors edition of the game reported that he received his refund, but hasn’t received any instructions from publisher CD Projekt Red on how to return the game and collectibles.
The refund he received (pictured below) was $271.10 USD which also included the estimated sales tax of the game.
It’s quite surprising that CD Projekt Red are the ones handling physical copy refunds, as traditionally it would be up to big-box retailers to issue refunds. Unfortunately, with the Cyberpunk 2077 issue, some retailers would offer refunds, while others did not.
As a result of the confusion, CD Projekt Red stepped in to offer refunds to customers who did not get the option to receive one.
For digital owners of the game, the Xbox and PlayStation store offered owners refunds, except in rare cases where users purchased digital codes from retailers. In these case-specific situations, CD Projekt Red are also keeping their word and issuing refunds to players who requested one.
As it stands, CD Projekt Red seems to be keeping its promise to refund all unsatisfied customers of the game. While they have not requested returns for the physical copies of the game, they may in the future.
If you’re a customer who has received a refund with no instructions on what to do with your copy, we recommend keeping the game stored in a safe place just in case the publisher asks for the copy back.
If they never do, then you can count yourself lucky. You’ll be able to play the game for free once the developers iron out all of the bugs, which is expected to happen over the course of the next few months.

CD Projekt Red delays Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs to work on bug fixes
CD Projekt Red has delayed the free DLC releases for Cyberpunk 2077 in order to work on the console ports and several updates.
CD Projekt Red has released a statement about the future of their game, Cyberpunk 2077.
It’s no secret that the release of Cyberpunk 2077 has been a disaster for the team over at CD Projekt Red, with the game running horribly on older hardware generations, leading to massive requests for refunds. This ultimately led to PlayStation de-listing the game from the store, which quickly became a PR nightmare.
Fast-forwarding to the present, CD Projekt Red has finally released a public statement regarding the future of the game and has also laid the pathway for the future patches and free DLC releases for the game.
Currently, CD Projekt Red plans two large patches for the release, with the first dropping within 10 days of January 13. The second patch will be more significant than the first and will release in the weeks following the first patch. There will still be more updates after these large patches, but these are the first planned of many.
Throughout 2021, CD Projekt Red plans to release free DLC for the game, alongside the free next-gen console update, which is planned to drop in the second half of the year. Unfortunately, this means users who have an Xbox Series X or a PlayStation 5 will have to wait a bit before a more advanced version of the game releases.
PC players can expect further bug fixes, crash fixes, and hopefully optimization updates to make the game run smoother on legacy hardware. While PC is still an important release for CD Projekt Red, the console versions definitely have more issues, and will most likely be a large focus of the upcoming updates.
Alongside this announcement, CD Projekt Red has made a commitment to players for the road ahead.
Cyberpunk 2077’s plans have been unchanged, and CD Projekt Red plans on supporting the game for years to come, just like The Witcher 3. You can watch the full statement in the YouTube video above.
