How to play Cyberpunk 2077 early on Xbox

Cyberpunk 2077 is nearly here, but if you’re on Xbox you can access the game early by using this simple trick.

Players will finally be able to get their hands on the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10, but Xbox owners can access the game early with a simple trick.

Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced in 2012 and overcame several setbacks and delays to make it to consoles and PC in 2020. It was created by CD Projekt Red, the developers of 2015’s widely acclaimed The Witcher 3, so players have been desperate to dive into Night City.

While certain reviewers and content creators have had early access to the game, for the rest of us, it launches on December 10th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/5, Google Stadia, and PC.

If you play on Xbox and can’t wait a few hours more, there’s a simple trick you can pull off to play Cyberpunk 2077 early.

How to play Cyberpunk early on Xbox

To play the game early, you need to change your location. New Zealand is several hours ahead, so they have access to the game already. To trick your Xbox into thinking you’re in NZ, follow these steps.

  1. Press the Xbox button.
  2. Scroll across to Profile & System.
  3. Select the System menu.
  4. Click on Language & location.
  5. Scroll down to Location.
  6. Change the location to New Zealand

This will give you some extra time to build your character before entering Night City with an incredibly detailed character creator. Then, find out if Cyberpunk 2077 has been worth the wait.

Once the game has been released in your country, you should switch it back to your own region. To do this, follow the steps again, and set the location back to the original one.

This is a common trick, and it was even used to play Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War early, and no account bans from Microsoft have been reported. So, go ahead, but please don’t be a spoil-sport and post footage or spoilers on social media; it’ll only take away other players’ enjoyment.

Cyberpunk 2077 players reportedly getting refunds and keeping the game

Players are starting to see refunds for their Cyberpunk 2077 purchases, CD Projekt Red have yet to request that they return physical copies.

Players are now starting to see refunds for their physical purchases of Cyberpunk 2077, but aren’t being asked to return their game copies.

The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has been nothing short of a disaster for gamers and developers at CD Projekt Red, especially on consoles.

Due to the horrible console launch, CD Projekt Red offered refunds to players who purchased physical copies of the game before December 21, 2020, and refunds are now being sent out to players via multiple methods of payment, including PayPal.

In an interview with Vice, an owner of the $250 collectors edition of the game reported that he received his refund, but hasn’t received any instructions from publisher CD Projekt Red on how to return the game and collectibles.

The refund he received (pictured below) was $271.10 USD which also included the estimated sales tax of the game.

It’s quite surprising that CD Projekt Red are the ones handling physical copy refunds, as traditionally it would be up to big-box retailers to issue refunds. Unfortunately, with the Cyberpunk 2077 issue, some retailers would offer refunds, while others did not.

As a result of the confusion, CD Projekt Red stepped in to offer refunds to customers who did not get the option to receive one.

For digital owners of the game, the Xbox and PlayStation store offered owners refunds, except in rare cases where users purchased digital codes from retailers. In these case-specific situations, CD Projekt Red are also keeping their word and issuing refunds to players who requested one.

As it stands, CD Projekt Red seems to be keeping its promise to refund all unsatisfied customers of the game. While they have not requested returns for the physical copies of the game, they may in the future.

If you’re a customer who has received a refund with no instructions on what to do with your copy, we recommend keeping the game stored in a safe place just in case the publisher asks for the copy back.

If they never do, then you can count yourself lucky. You’ll be able to play the game for free once the developers iron out all of the bugs, which is expected to happen over the course of the next few months.

CD Projekt Red delays Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs to work on bug fixes

CD Projekt Red has delayed the free DLC releases for Cyberpunk 2077 in order to work on the console ports and several updates.

CD Projekt Red has released a statement about the future of their game, Cyberpunk 2077.

It’s no secret that the release of Cyberpunk 2077 has been a disaster for the team over at CD Projekt Red, with the game running horribly on older hardware generations, leading to massive requests for refunds. This ultimately led to PlayStation de-listing the game from the store, which quickly became a PR nightmare.

Fast-forwarding to the present, CD Projekt Red has finally released a public statement regarding the future of the game and has also laid the pathway for the future patches and free DLC releases for the game.

Currently, CD Projekt Red plans two large patches for the release, with the first dropping within 10 days of January 13. The second patch will be more significant than the first and will release in the weeks following the first patch. There will still be more updates after these large patches, but these are the first planned of many.

Throughout 2021, CD Projekt Red plans to release free DLC for the game, alongside the free next-gen console update, which is planned to drop in the second half of the year. Unfortunately, this means users who have an Xbox Series X or a PlayStation 5 will have to wait a bit before a more advanced version of the game releases.

PC players can expect further bug fixes, crash fixes, and hopefully optimization updates to make the game run smoother on legacy hardware. While PC is still an important release for CD Projekt Red, the console versions definitely have more issues, and will most likely be a large focus of the upcoming updates.

Alongside this announcement, CD Projekt Red has made a commitment to players for the road ahead.

Cyberpunk 2077’s plans have been unchanged, and CD Projekt Red plans on supporting the game for years to come, just like The Witcher 3. You can watch the full statement in the YouTube video above.

CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077

It’s officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive brand new DLC content thanks to comments made by CD Projekt Red. Here’s everything we know so far, from the release date, to what will be in the expansion.

Cyberpunk 2077 was arguably the most anticipated video game of all-time. The hype was enormous and it’s no secret that it had a messy release. CD Projekt Red’s latest title was plagued with game-breaking bugs on all platforms, which led to fans getting refunds.

Despite this, the game shattered records and its social statistics were incredible – making it the first Steam title to crack 1 million concurrent players. Now the devs have announced new DLC for the game, and here’s everything we know about it, both confirmed and rumored.

When will the Cyberpunk DLC be released?

While the exact release date for the Cyberpunk DLC hasn’t been confirmed by the devs, we do know that it is planned to come out “in early 2021.” This was confirmed on Cyberpunk 2077’s official website and we might see it at some point in the next few months.

It’s possible that CD Projekt Red is going the same route they went with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. They released the DLC across many different months throughout the year, so we might see something similar in 2021.

The devs will probably prioritize fixing the game’s bugs in the two big patches that they announced, so they might release the expansion afterwards. The site tells fans to stay tuned for more information, so as soon as they announce an official date, we’ll be sure to update this guide.

Will the Cyberpunk DLC be free?

If you’re not looking to spend a lot on new content, then you’re in luck. A few of the DLC packs for Cyberpunk 2077 will be completely free of cost. These will probably consist of new cosmetic items, tech, and mini-quests.

There will also be paid DLC which will expand upon the world of Cyberpunk 2077 in a major way and will likely consist of large-scale missions and fully constructed narratives.

What will be in the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC?

The official premise of the DLC hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we can piece together bits and pieces of information from the webpage. It shows clips from the story featuring Judy and Johnny Silverhand, which might imply that the expansion will revolve around them.

Rock Paper Shotgun spotted a clue about the DLC’s content in one of the game’s trailers. They stated that the free DLC will have a “bunch of cool stuff that’ll inject even more life into the world of the dark future.”

They also mentioned that the paid DLC will “take you even deeper into the world of Cyberpunk 2077, offering substantial, story-driven content that’ll give you tough choices to make through impactful narratives that you won’t soon forget.”

A leak from GameFAQs points to cut missions, items, and dialogue being added to the game in the expansion packs. This hasn’t been officially confirmed, but it does sound exciting.

That covers everything we know so far about the planned DLC for the game. Once we learn more information from the developers then we’ll be sure to update you. Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
