Modern Warfare 2 is expected to get the fan-favorite Gun Game mode eventually, but here’s how you can play the mode early.

Party Games have become a staple of Call of Duty ever since Black Ops 1’s wager matches, with players getting together for some casual fun in modes such as Gun Game, One in the Chamber, Infected, and Sticks and Stones.

Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t have any of these Party Games yet, but leaks claim that Gun Game has been added to the files, perhaps to arrive in February’s Season 2. However, there’s actually a way to play Gun Game before it officially arrives, so here’s how.

How to play Gun Game in Modern Warfare 2

You can play Gun Game through Modern Warfare 2’s Private Matches as even though the mode hasn’t been implemented, you can enable the setting through Free-For-All.

Here’s how to play Gun Game in Modern Warfare 2:

  1. Launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
  2. Head to the Private Match mode and select Free-For-All.
  3. Click on Game Setup and head to the Game Rules tab.
  4. Head over to Gameplay.
  5. Here, toggle the Gun Game Weapon Swaps setting to Kills.
  6. You can then tweak any other settings to suit your preference.

Enabling the Gun Game Weapon Swaps setting means you’ll be constantly changing weapons after every kill, the same as the classic party game.

Admittedly, it’s quite a rudimentary version of Gun Game. You don’t have any choice over the weapons that the game will cycle through, and it doesn’t always end on a high-skill weapon such as a Combat Knife or Throwing Knife. Plus, weapons will keep cycling until someone reaches the score limit.

But, if you’re keen to play some Gun Game in Modern Warfare 2, you can get some friends or like-minded players together and create your own version in Modern Warfare 2’s Private Matches.

Gunfight will also be coming to Modern Warfare 2 in a future update, and it’s also been leaked that the Crossbow is on the way as well, which will be perfect for that round-ending kill in Gun Game.
