How to set up Custom Games in CoD: Vanguard
Vanguard allows players to create their own Custom Games, accessing all of the weapons and custom rulesets. Here’s how to set up your own Private Match in Vanguard, as well as how to play Zombies in a Private game.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is finally here, and players are already working their way through the Ranks to unlock all of the new weapons and Operators on offer.
Private Games give you access to all of the weapons available in the game, as well as all of the attachments. This provides a stress-free environment for testing or a place to get into some fun or competitive matches with your friends.
Here’s how to create your own Custom Game in Call of Duty: Vanguard, as well as how to enter a Private Vanguard Zombies lobby.
How to make a Custom Vanguard Game
You can create your own custom Vanguard game from the main multiplayer menu, where you can tailor all of the settings to your liking.

Here’s how to create a Private Match, step-by-step:
- Launch Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Select Multiplayer
- Click on ‘Private Match’ under the ‘Play’ tab
- Select either ‘Game Set Up’ or ‘Manage Players’
- Tweak the settings until you’re happy with
From here, you can customize all sorts of settings to tailor the game to your preference. You can choose the map and mode, adjust the health, Scorestreaks, and more.
There doesn’t appear to be a way to ban any weapons, but you can use the CDL mode for a more restricted and competitive ruleset.
You can also add Bots to the game, in difficulties ranging from Recruit to Veteran. If you’re new to Call of Duty or want to warm up before your play session, fighting bots in a Custom Lobby is the way to go.
How to make a Private Vanguard Zombies game
Setting up a custom Vanguard Zombies game is much easier, as you just need to hit the Private option when loading into a match.
This will allow you to only play with your party, but its features are limited. You won’t be able to customize any settings, and Treyarch confirmed that pausing will arrive as a “post-launch feature.” But, all of Vanguard Zombies will run on “run on dedicated servers starting at launch for the smoothest experience possible!”
