Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 is chock full of Quests to tick off, including one which asks players to survive storm phases. Here’s an easy breakdown of you can complete this challenge.

The Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass is overflowing with new skins to unlock, including Super Styles for the most dedicated players to work towards. However, grinding through all of the tiers is a serious time investment, and fans are always looking for a way to level up quickly.

Luckily, Epic releases a steady stream of challenges to help speed things up, from the traditional Weekly Quests to special events like Lantern Fest. One of these events, the Easter-themed Spring Breakout, tasks players with surviving storm phases to earn XP.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to survive storm phases in Fortnite.

What are storm phases in Fortnite?

Simply put, a phase is when the purple storm closes in on the circle, making the safe area of the map smaller and forcing players together. Every time the storm starts moving, a timer will appear under the minimap at the top lefthand corner of the screen – when it hits zero, you have survived a storm phase.

If you’ve been playing Fortnite regularly since it launched, you’ve been actively surviving storm phases in every single match, without necessarily knowing what they were called.

The Fortnite storm makes the map smaller with each phase.

Tips on how to survive storm phases in Fortnite

In order to survive storm phases and tick off every step of this Quest, you might have to adapt your playstyle to focus on staying alive rather than racking up kills. By carefully choosing where you land and not running into fights, you’ll have the challenge done in no time.

  • Land at less popular locations away from named POIs, reducing your chances of running into enemies.
  • Make sure you have at least a couple of weapons and plenty of healing items, such as Medi-Mist, Slurp Juice, and Chug Splashes.
  • Use Haystacks, Dumpsters, bushes, and tall grass to stay out of sight.
  • Hang around the edge of each storm circle, ensuring that players can’t flank you from behind.
  • Move to the next circle as late as possible.
  • Don’t engage enemies unless they see you or you’re certain you can get the kill.

Later stages of this Spring Breakout Quest require players to survive storm phases while carrying an Epic weapon. To do this easily, we recommend landing at Kenutsu Crossing where you can guarantee to find nine Kinetic Blades.

This means you won’t have to spend too much time finding an Epic weapon, and you can begin making progress from the very first storm phase.
