How to upgrade Black Ops Cold War from Xbox One to Xbox Series X
Upgrading the Xbox One to the Xbox Series X can be a bit tricky. Here is how you can upgrade your current copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for the new console.
The latest installment in the Black Ops series titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War finally became available to play on on both the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One as of November 13, 2020. The game’s debut follows the recent release of Microsoft’s next-gen consoles which have several new upgrades.
They come with an enhanced frame rate, ray-tracing and quicker loading speeds. If you purchased an Xbox One copy of the game before getting a Series X then you will probably want to play it on the newest device since it is backwards compatible. However, you will need to manage your expectations a bit.
How to upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series X
Black Ops Cold War doesn’t support free upgrades or Smart Delivery, so if you’re looking to upgrade the game to the next-gen version then you have to pay for the upgrade. The upgrade is only available for the Digital Standard Edition on Xbox One through Microsoft Store. Physical Copies on Xbox One cannot upgrade to the Xbox One.
Players can visit the Microsoft Store on their Xbox console to upgrade the bundle and the pay price difference between the editions.
As we mentioned before the Xbox Series X is backwards compatible so you will be able to run the Xbox One copy of the game on the next-gen console. You can only enjoy the new Xbox’s features if you purchase something other than the Xbox One Standard Edition of the game.
Which edition to purchase
There are a few different editions of the the game and we will summarize them for you.
Standard Edition
The Xbox One version of Black Ops Cold War is known as the Standard Edition and it includes the base game along with four content packs. This includes the Confrontation Weapons Pack and if you get it at launch then you will also get couple of weapon blueprints.
The Standard Edition comes with Digital and Physical Copy versions. This digital edition provides you with the option to upgrade to Xbox Series X through the Microsoft Store at launch for $10.
Cross-Gen Bundle
To take full advantage of the new console’s features, then you should definitely get the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Cross-Gen Bundle. This costs $10 more than the Standard Edition, but you will be getting both the current-gen and next-gen versions of the game.
The Ultimate Edition
The version of the game might be right up your alley if you’re a really big spender. For £99.99/$99.99, you will get the Series X/S version along with its first battle pass and other neat perks such as the Land/Sea/Air Pack.
So in conclusion, you can’t enjoy the new features of Xbox Series S|X with an Xbox One standard copy, but you can still play the game via backwards compatibility or upgrading.
