Apex Legends has gone for the longest time without crossplay, but now that is about to change in Season 7, and you can play with your friends who are on different platforms. Here’s everything you need to know about this feature.
Many multiplayer games these days come with cross-platform capabilities. This allows you to join your friends in matches, even if they’re playing on a different console or device than you. Apex Legends did not have this feature, and fans have been asking the developers for it.
Respawn Entertainment addressed this during EA Play 2020 and confirmed plans to implement this feature in the battle royale title. Now, the crossplay beta has finally released, and you can play Apex Legends between PS4, Xbox One, Origin, and Steam.
How to use crossplay
The cross-platform feature isn’t as simple as you’d think. If you play Apex Legends on the PC, then you can only match with other PC players during normal matchmaking.
It’s a different story for console players. If you play on a PlayStation or Xbox, then will ultimately be paired with other players on consoles. You can still use your system to play with friends on PC, but you need to already be in a party with them before the matchmaking begins.
How to connect with friends on PC and consoles
You can search for players on different platforms through their usernames. Here’s what you need to do:
- Start up and log in to Apex Legends
- Open up the friends menu from the main lobby screen
- Click the Find Friend option
- Enter the player’s in-game name and select search
That’s all you need to do when searching for and adding players. You will have to make sure that you have the username that matches the platform they are playing on.
How to disable crossplay
You can turn cross-platform play on and off by heading to the settings menu. If you want to disable this feature then you can do it from there, but this will reduce the number of potential players that you can match with.

This can lead to you having to wait longer during the matchmaking, so keeping it enabled might be the wiser choice.
Cross-progression in Apex Legends
You can use the same EA account to play Apex Legends on your PC and Xbox by connecting it to your Microsoft account, but you can’t share the progression between those two platforms. So you won’t have any of your unlocked items when playing on another system.
However, Respawn understands the benefits of cross-progression, and they have expressed interest in bringing it to the game in the future.
So far the crossplay beta is doing well, and we’ll see some changes in the final version. We can expect to see this feature implemented properly when the game arrives on the Nintendo Switch, and we’ll keep you updated when it does.

Apex Legends: how to activate the Season 9 Arena teaser
Apex Legends data miners have found out how players can activate a new Season 9 teaser. Here’s how to see it for yourself.
The Apex Legends Season 9 teaser is now live, revealing the mystery behind the mysterious platform in the Firing Range.
After the halfway split for Season 8, players noticed a stranged platform implemented on the left side of the Firing Range map.
For weeks players were unaware of its purpose, but finally, the mystery has been uncovered and is associated with the new upcoming Arena mode.
Data miner @GarretLeaks was among the few who leaked how players can activate the button found on the Firing Range platform.
GarretLeaks has even created a step by step guide of how players can experience the Season 9 Arena teaser, which will be available April 20th:
- Step 1: Collect keycard from care packages (available now)
- Step 2: Find Holosprays scattered around Kings Canyon
- Step 3: Find Holosprays scattered around Olympus
- Step 4: Press the phone in the lobby and listen to the audio
- Step 5: Press the button on the Firing Range platform and wait for the ship (available on April 20th)
The Corrupted Keycards are now live and available to pick up from Care Packages in-game for both Kings Canyon and Olympus. On the 20th, players will then be able to scan the Holosprays and activate the teaser.
Dataminer @Shrugtal released images of where players will be able to find these Holosprays, which are located in various locations across the two maps.
You can scan multiple Holosprays in one match and even scan all three over multiple matches. It seems the Holosprays will spawn in all the locations highlighted in Shrugtal’s image.
Along with this, fellow data miner @Biast12 has also released a video showing what happens after activating the button in the Firing Range.
The video shows Biast boarding a ship after activating the button. Biast arrives at a new location where another button awaits, which activates an elevator. This then takes you into a small arena where a massive hollo of future Legend Ash is shown along with a voice line that states, “The Arena awaits.”
This is clearly a teaser for the upcoming 3v3 mode ‘Arena,’ which will be arriving in Season 9. However, this is also a teaser for the future legend, Ash. Although Ash will likely be arriving at a later Season – more like Season 10 – it does confirm that she will be arriving sooner than later.
In fact, it’s not the first time an announcer for a game mode has eventually become a playable Legend. Back in Season 3, the Shadow Fall game mode saw Revenant as the announcer, who later became a playable Legend in Season 4.

If this stays true to the format, Ash could be the new Legend for Season 10, after being an announcer for the previous season much like the introduction of Revenant. Players will be able to activate this teaser towards the end of Season 8.

Big map changes and Crypto event details revealed Apex Legends Season 9 leak
Some new Apex Legends leaks point to Olympus going through big changes in Season 9, and Crypto’s heirloom event having a special theme.
A new Apex Legends leak has emerged which hints at some major map changes for Olympus and World’s Edge when Season 9 goes live. It also reveals new details about the Crypto heirloom event too.
Apex Legends has gone through various changes since launch, with each update bringing new content like weapons, heirlooms, and even Legends. The game’s map has also been reformed with new areas like Olympus joining the battle royale.
While Kings Canyon and World’s Edge have been largely altered from their original forms, Olympus has yet to be touched. Now, some new leaks have popped up which suggest that’s all about to change soon.
“Olympus should get the “big map change” at season start,” he tweeted. “World’s Edge should get a small map change mid-season.” So far, it doesn’t seem like anything is planned for Kings Canyon but that could change.
Season 8 completely reformed that map, and left it in a ruined state. So, it’s likely that Respawn might plan some bigger changes for it in future seasons.
Additionally, the data miner also had revealed some new information regarding the upcoming Crypto heirloom event. The season three legend is getting a Jikdo sword as an heirloom, and the event will have a “post-apocalypse” theme.
That event will probably also bring some brand-new skins and other cosmetics for players to equip. With a potential “post-apocalypse” theme, we wouldn’t be too surprised if we ended up seeing some creative new designs.
It’s worth keeping in mind that these are currently just leaks, and are subject to change until Respawn announces something official. That said, we’ll keep checking for further updates, and will inform you once we learn something new.

Apex Legends devs may rework Crypto if his play rate gets worse
Apex Legends dev reveals hacker Crypto could be receiving a rework in Season 9 if his pick rate gets any worse.
Crypto could be next in line to receive a rework for Season 9 after Apex Legends dev reveals they are watching his play rate closely.
Crypto is a very niche character in Apex Legends and it’s no surprise that his play rate may be lower than most of the other Legends.
Crypto was introduced in Season 3, along with World’s Edge after the hacker destroyed the beacon at Repulser on Kings Canyon. Crypto has a strong dislike towards the Syndicate, the group behind the Apex Games, joining the fight to get closer to the corrupt company.
His introduction was well received and even became a strong pick in Ranked Leagues, combining his ultimate Drone EMP with characters like Wraith and Octane to get in quickly after Crypto deals the shield damage.
During a podcast, live balance designer John Larson stated that Crypto had a low pick rate in Season 8, but a “healthy win rate,” putting him in an odd spot for a rework.
His pick rate is much lower than other Legends, sitting at 1.5% compared to fellow Survey Legend Bloodhound’s 14.3%, according to Apex legends Status.
Larson believes this is because of his Surveillance Drone, as it provokes a playstyle that many players aren’t necessarily too fond of. Most casual players want a character that keeps them in the fight and can be used aggressively, whereas Crypto is most useful when he is in the drone.
Unlike Bloodhound, for Crypto to be most effective he needs to be out of the fight, making him a tough character to master and also one that many players won’t have the motivation for.
Crypto is a character that once mastered, can be extremely useful, especially with good teammates who have the ability to take fights without a third always being there.
If Crypto’s play rate or win rate gets any lower, Larson revealed they will look into reworking him as a whole, much like Mirage and Lifeline.
