Black Ops 5 placeholder logos Found In Black Ops Cold War

A look into the early development of Black Ops Cold War shows the original name for the project.

Published

on

Black Ops 5 logos have been found in Black Ops Cold War, and the community has taken notice.

In a tweet by Twitter user CoDGhosts619, it has been pointed out that there are Black Ops 5 logos inside of Black Ops Cold War. In the images below, you can see that the logo “Black Ops V” can be seen in the message of the day and on the top right of the screen.

Additionally, you can also see that “BO5” logo is on the top left of all of the Wildcards in game as well.

What does this mean?

Simply put, it actually doesn’t mean anything. In the production stages of development, often there will be placeholder icons scattered around the builds of the game internally. In the case of Black Ops Cold War, this meant the placeholders would be simple Black Ops 5 icons, presumably used until the official logo and name was agreed upon.

We’ve reached out to Activision for a statement and have been told it’s a placeholder in-game kept in as a mistake. It has no significance for the future of the franchise.

Even with the news, it still isn’t confirmation that we won’t see another Black Ops installment from Treyarch. Only time will be able to tell that.

Was the game originally going to be called Black Ops 5?

Maybe. We will never know for certain from the outside. It very well could be at a point the game was called “Black Ops 5,” or it could be that it was agreed this would just be used as a placeholder name.

Normally, in the development cycle of a game like Call of Duty, several titles are pitched over the development span and agreed upon a few months or a year in advance to launch. The logo, branding, and marketing are all made by a specialized team and are then added to the core game.

It’s more surprising that this is the first time this has ever happened to a Call of Duty game in its final launch form. We may never see something like this slip through the cracks ever again.

If you’d like to see the logo in-game yourself, it appears the large Black Ops 5 logo has been removed in today’s update, but you can still see the “BO5” logo on the wildcards in-game.

Update: It appears console players may still be able to see the Black Ops 5 logo in the message of the day screen.

Black Ops Cold War Nov. 30 Update: XP Fixes

Weapon XP bugs are addressed in Black Ops Cold War’s new game settings update.

Published

A new game settings update for Black Ops Cold War is live with a fix for XP bugs.

Treyarch has released a new game settings update across all platforms to address the issue with Weapon XP earn rate in Black Ops Cold War zombies.

The update also increases Weapon XP earn rate in both MP & Zombies mode. Treyarch says more 2X Weapon XP events are planned for December with proper earn rates activated.

This fix comes after fans complained with a change that occurred on November 24 update, which reduced the overall Weapon XP rate in Black Ops Cold War Zombies. Now, players in both MP & Zombies can benefit from an increased weapon XP earn rate.

Patch Notes:

Coming out of last week’s 2XP + 2WXP event, we’ve made some additional tuning changes to global Weapon XP earn rates across the board. Starting today, you’ll now level up your weapons and unlock more attachments faster than the previous standard rate in both MP and Zombies.

We’ve also addressed an issue in Zombies that was causing lower-than-targeted Weapon XP earn rates in solo matches and in later rounds. To thank everyone for their patience, we’re planning even more 2WXP events in December.

Here’s what’s new today:

GLOBAL

Progression

  • Increased Weapon XP earn rates for both Multiplayer and Zombies.

ZOMBIES

Progression

  • Addressed an issue that was causing lower-than-targeted Weapon XP in solo matches and in later rounds.
  • Addressed an issue where the Napalm Burst Ammo Mod wasn’t consistently awarding Weapon XP when equipped.

MULTIPLAYER

Maps

  • Nuketown ‘84
    • Closed an out-of-bounds gap that allowed players to stay alive outside of the playable space

Black Ops Cold War’s poor visibility gets player killed by user camouflaged as a wall

Black Ops Cold War’s poor visibility has gotten a player killed by a user that looked like a wall. Visibility continues to plague the game

Published

on

It’s unclear as to why BOCW’s visibility is so poor, but one fan will want to know why. A video posted on Reddit has demonstrated just how baffling the game’s scenery and colors can be sometimes as at first glance, the player is killed by no one.

There’s nothing worse than heading towards the main area of conflict and getting ready to dive headfirst into a firefight. But it’s frustrating when you don’t even make it there because you’ve been killed by an apparent ghost.

There’s absolutely no shame in losing a 1 vs 1 to someone when you’re both aware of each other, but when you’re looking dead straight at someone and you still can’t see them… Well, that’s a problem.

Clumsy camouflage?

Character wearing a ghillie suit in COD4

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer was designed so that if you had a sniper rifle equipped, you would wear a ghillie suit, and could easily blend in with some of the grassy environments. That was a deliberate mechanic to encourage stealthy sniping.

An enemy blatantly out in the open with an AK-47 and being impervious to sight is not a deliberate design choice – it’s an eye-opening flaw. So when poor Reddit user Yannivzp was happily running around the Moscow map and suddenly died, it was a mystery.

They posted the video on Reddit which you can see below.

It even took us a couple of views to fully realize what happens. The enemy player momentarily appears, we think, and Yannivzp is completely oblivious to their sudden appearance due to the color similarities. As a result, this basically just becomes a free kill for their opponent. The clip also inspired some hilarious comments below the video too.

One user said: “Holy f**k, and I wondered why people were looking invisible in that spot, they are literally using the invisibility cloak from Harry Potter.” Another one also made a good point too: “Wow. They have to know visibility is horrible in this game. Idk why they won’t fix it.”

an enemy hidden in bocw multiplayer

Not only that, but it’s the kind of scenario that raises awareness to the ease of camping in Call of Duty.

This ideology is especially rife in Hardcore Modes. Unless a camper’s position is compromised fairly quickly then they can remain undetected and reel off an easy streak of kills without breaking a sweat.

Visibility is proving to be one of the main sore points for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Hopefully Treyarch are fully aware of this and will be updating it in the future.
