Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 arrives in October 2022, and Infinity Ward have confirmed that Warzone 2.0 will also release later this year.

Infinity Ward return in 2022 with Modern Warfare 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2019’s reboot. Alongside bringing together Task Force 141 for the campaign, new multiplayer modes, Spec Ops, and more, they’re also developing ‘Warzone 2.0’ – the sequel to CoD’s hit battle royale.

Warzone 2 will feature the same engine, mechanics, and features as Modern Warfare 2, and players have been desperate to know when it will release. Luckily, Infinity Ward have confirmed that the “evolution in Battle Royale” arrives this year.

There has been a ton of rumors and speculation surrounding Warzone 2’s release date, with many believing that it would launch in March 2023 similar to Warzone’s original release during Modern Warfare Season 2.

Infinity Ward confirmed to CharlieIntel in a creator session that Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 won’t launch together. However, they later revealed that “fans everywhere can look forward to a new Warzone 2.0 experience releasing this year.”

They described how Warzone 2 will be “the evolution in Battle Royale with a brand-new play space.” Players can also expect plenty of post-launch content, including “evolving gameplay with new maps, modes, seasonal events, community celebrations, and more.”

When Warzone 2 will actually release is anybody’s guess at the moment. Warzone Pacific arrived in early December, roughly a month after Vanguard, so we could see a similar timeframe for Warzone 2 and MW2 Season 1.

Modern Warfare 2 brings a ton of new mechanics and gameplay changes including an expanded Gunsmith, water and swimming mechanics, as well as completely overhauled vehicle gameplay – and it’s all shared with Warzone 2.

Warzone 2 will also include the brand-new AI that Infinity Ward have designed for Modern Warfare 2, with Animation Director Mark Grigsby saying that it will make for the “best Warzone experience in a long time.”

Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are still several months out so in the meantime, be sure to check out everything we know about Vanguard and Warzone Pacific Season 4.
