Modern Warfare dev shares exploratory concept art for canceled Zombies mode
Activision/Aaron BeckAn Infinity Ward artist has posted on his Instagram account, after getting clearance from Activision and Infinity Ward, exploratory concept art for a Zombies mode idea for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Infinity Ward opted out of releasing a Zombies mode with Modern Warfare to preserve the game’s authenticity. The game featured Campaign, MP, and Special Ops as a unified game versus having Zombies.
Infinity Ward said, back during May 2019 with the reveal of the game, that: “We’re trying to create an authentic, realistic feeling world. We don’t have the flexibility to do something like put zombies in the game. That would compromise the feeling of playing in a world that feels realistic and authentic and relative to today’s conflicts and things we face.”
Aaron Beck, artist at Infinity Ward, has shared now a look at concept art for the Zombies mode:
Here’s some additional close ups:
He posted the images with the following caption:
Zombie Walker 💀 Finally got clearance to share more art from Modern Warfare! So to begin here’s an unused concept from early in production. I was thinking it would be fun to play with the classic Call of Duty zombie gameplay, hinting here at some sort of Russian special forces soldier and his duo of quadruped robots, holding captive zombified soldiers by leashes around their necks.
As mentioned in his post, this is art from early in product and will not be released in the game, as the mode never moved past the concept art phase.
