Infinity Ward finally fixes this game-breaking Modern Warfare bug

Infinity Ward has finally fixed a highly destructive bug for Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare has had its fair share of bugs, with Unlimited Juggernauts and invisible players among them.

Now, a game-breaking bug has resurfaced that, quite literally, locks players out of the game, and it’s called “Error 664640”. This bug started around the July-August timeframe and has since been relatively absent until recently.

Players who attempted to log in to Modern Warfare Multiplayer or Warzone sometimes encountered this error code, which then locked them out of the game’s online portions indefinitely. It began when the player would be stuck on “fetching online profile,” resulting in this looping error code.

There have been complaints of players unable to play for almost a week now, so many players will be happy to know this bug has been addressed by Infinity Ward in a game update today, December 8.

In a Twitter post, Infinity Ward has confirmed they have fixed the issue in a back-end patch, finally allowing thousands of players to yet again access Modern Warfare and Warzone.

This much-needed update comes 8 days before the scheduled release of Season 1 for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, releasing on December 16, 2020.

If a bug like this launched alongside the new season, it could’ve spelled disaster for many players trying to access Warzone day 1 of the newest season.

The newest season will come with cross-progression between Warzone, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops Cold War. For Warzone specifically, a new map, Rebirth Island, will be added.

Black Ops Cold War will get brand new maps, including 4 gunfight maps and the return of fan-favorite Raid from Black Ops 2. You can read more about the upcoming season here.

That’s it for now. If you’ve been affected by this error message recently, you should try playing Modern Warfare to see if your problem has been resolved.
