Excitement for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is beginning to build after the emergence of revolutionary gameplay details. While the Pokemon formula is set to undergo some changes, many fans are questioning if Scarlet and Violet are open world games.

Pokemon games aren’t exactly renowned for their innovation, but Scarlet and Violet could be set to break that trend as players will experience a new way to take in the franchise.

Sword and Shield introduced players to an open world section called the Wild Area where players could encounter new Pokemon. Now, fans of the franchise are wondering if Scarlet and Violet will have a similar open world feature for exploring, catching, and training Pokemon.

On August 3, a Pokemon Presents event welcomed players to the Paldea region for the first time. The new look at Scarlet and Violet’s region shed light on what players can expect from the upcoming titles that are set for a November 18 worldwide release.

The Pokemon franchise has yet to deliver a full-fledged open world title, but all that is set to change with Scarlet and Violet.

Is Pokemon Scarlet and Violet open world?

The Pokemon Company confirmed that Scarlet and Violet is an entirely open world experience. The August 3 presentation confirmed as much: “these titles will be open world RPGs, a first for the Pokemon series.”

The lengthy trailer then displayed aspects of what features players can expect from the open world gameplay. For starters, it seems like Legendary Pokemon Miraidon and Koraidon will act as your method of transportation around the Paldea region.

Exploration is a major aspect of open world games and with Miraidon and Koraidon’s ability to take you across the ground, over the water, and through the air, you’ll be able to explore every inch of Paldea.

From vast lakes to mountain ranges, it looks like some truly spectacular areas await trainers on their journey, with a clear emphasis on the vibrant colors and nature-heavy landscapes of the region.

What’s more, players can go through Scarlet and Violet at their own pace with no pre-determined path to follow. The game will offer three stories, one of which is the traditional Pokemon journey of defeating eight gym leaders and becoming champion of the region.

We currently don’t know what the other two stories will entail. However, in true open world fashion, you’ll get to decide in which order to tackle the gym challenges.
