Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Black Ops 5 placeholder logos Found In Black Ops Cold War

A look into the early development of Black Ops Cold War shows the original name for the project.

Black Ops 5 logos have been found in Black Ops Cold War, and the community has taken notice.

In a tweet by Twitter user CoDGhosts619, it has been pointed out that there are Black Ops 5 logos inside of Black Ops Cold War. In the images below, you can see that the logo “Black Ops V” can be seen in the message of the day and on the top right of the screen.

Additionally, you can also see that “BO5” logo is on the top left of all of the Wildcards in game as well.

What does this mean?

Simply put, it actually doesn’t mean anything. In the production stages of development, often there will be placeholder icons scattered around the builds of the game internally. In the case of Black Ops Cold War, this meant the placeholders would be simple Black Ops 5 icons, presumably used until the official logo and name was agreed upon.

We’ve reached out to Activision for a statement and have been told it’s a placeholder in-game kept in as a mistake. It has no significance for the future of the franchise.

Even with the news, it still isn’t confirmation that we won’t see another Black Ops installment from Treyarch. Only time will be able to tell that.

Was the game originally going to be called Black Ops 5?

Maybe. We will never know for certain from the outside. It very well could be at a point the game was called “Black Ops 5,” or it could be that it was agreed this would just be used as a placeholder name.

Normally, in the development cycle of a game like Call of Duty, several titles are pitched over the development span and agreed upon a few months or a year in advance to launch. The logo, branding, and marketing are all made by a specialized team and are then added to the core game.

It’s more surprising that this is the first time this has ever happened to a Call of Duty game in its final launch form. We may never see something like this slip through the cracks ever again.

If you’d like to see the logo in-game yourself, it appears the large Black Ops 5 logo has been removed in today’s update, but you can still see the “BO5” logo on the wildcards in-game.

Update: It appears console players may still be able to see the Black Ops 5 logo in the message of the day screen.

What to expect in the next major Apex Legends update

Respawn Entertainment are preparing a new update patch for the coming year. Here’s everything you need to know.

Respawn Entertainment is preparing a major patch update for Apex Legends, which will mark the new year by bringing changes to the game. Here is everything that is confirmed as well as what we hope to see.

Season 7 of Apex Legends is off to a great start with its map and vehicles giving players something new to enjoy. Plus, the recent return of Airship Assassin during this year’s Black Friday sales gave back veteran Wraith players something they had been missing for a while.

There is even more upcoming content to look forward to; Respawn has plans to start 2021 with a huge update patch in January, which will come with many fixes for existing bugs and potentially some cool New Year themed content. Here is what we know about the update so far.

Upcoming Bug Fixes

According to the Apex Legends Trello board, the following errors will be patched up in the 2021 update:

  • Invalid/expired tokens errors: These keep console players from being able to connect to the Apex Legends servers.
  • Octane jump pad bugs: Players can’t double jump after interacting with the Octane jump pad.
  • Steam lobby lag: Season 7 has frame drops, lag, and visual bugs in the pre-game lobby.
  • Incorrect player names display on Steam: Player names are shown as long random strings of characters on Steam.
  • Placing Sheila on the Trident leads to a crash: Placing Rampart’s turrets on a Trident has caused so many crashes that Respawn took away that ability until they patch it up.
  • Mark all as seen option for menus: This is an issue that came to light in a reddit post and a fix is on its way.

These are the changes that have been officially confirmed by Respawn so far, but there could very well be a lot more once the patch actually rolls around.

More Potential Updates

Here are some other features that have yet to be confirmed for the upcoming update, but we might see them soon:

  • New Skins: In addition to the upcoming Holo-Day skins, we could see the release of brand new cosmetics to fit the new year spirit.
  • Octane buffs: Respawn aims to Octane’s kit after the Season 7 changes. Although the team stated they were hoping to get these changes out in the January update, it has not been officially confirmed.
  • Weapon buffs: Season 7 has seen a lot of fixes to the weapon balancing in Apex Legends, so we might see more of this for the coming year. Especially when new events take place.
  • New Maps: Olympus is the newest map in Apex Legends that has proven to be a diverse and well-designed area. We might see a new update to the game’s maps in the coming year.
  • Battle Pass progression: The Season 7 battle pass w’s progression system felt unfamiliar to players so the response wasn’t lukewarm. Respawn might change this into something more recognizable.
  • Crossplay Fixes: Crossplay has been generally buggy since the Aftermarket Collection event. Respawn has been working on improvements and we could see some more in the new update.
  • Additional bugs fixes: Respawn has confirmed that the fixes listed on the Trello board are just a few of their current projects. There are many more changes that are being worked on that we haven’t heard about yet.

With the seasonal Holo-Day Bash event coming up on December 1, there is still a lot more for you to look forward to. That event will bring along new cosmetics and items for you to collect so that you can end this year with a bang.

So far, not much else is known about the Apex Legends 2021 update but we expect a plethora of exciting new content and fixes. We’re eager to hear more details about what Respawn Entertainment has planned for the game.

Black Ops Cold War’s poor visibility gets player killed by user camouflaged as a wall

Black Ops Cold War’s poor visibility has gotten a player killed by a user that looked like a wall. Visibility continues to plague the game

It’s unclear as to why BOCW’s visibility is so poor, but one fan will want to know why. A video posted on Reddit has demonstrated just how baffling the game’s scenery and colors can be sometimes as at first glance, the player is killed by no one.

There’s nothing worse than heading towards the main area of conflict and getting ready to dive headfirst into a firefight. But it’s frustrating when you don’t even make it there because you’ve been killed by an apparent ghost.

There’s absolutely no shame in losing a 1 vs 1 to someone when you’re both aware of each other, but when you’re looking dead straight at someone and you still can’t see them… Well, that’s a problem.

Clumsy camouflage?

Character wearing a ghillie suit in COD4

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer was designed so that if you had a sniper rifle equipped, you would wear a ghillie suit, and could easily blend in with some of the grassy environments. That was a deliberate mechanic to encourage stealthy sniping.

An enemy blatantly out in the open with an AK-47 and being impervious to sight is not a deliberate design choice – it’s an eye-opening flaw. So when poor Reddit user Yannivzp was happily running around the Moscow map and suddenly died, it was a mystery.

They posted the video on Reddit which you can see below.

It even took us a couple of views to fully realize what happens. The enemy player momentarily appears, we think, and Yannivzp is completely oblivious to their sudden appearance due to the color similarities. As a result, this basically just becomes a free kill for their opponent. The clip also inspired some hilarious comments below the video too.

One user said: “Holy f**k, and I wondered why people were looking invisible in that spot, they are literally using the invisibility cloak from Harry Potter.” Another one also made a good point too: “Wow. They have to know visibility is horrible in this game. Idk why they won’t fix it.”

Not only that, but it’s the kind of scenario that raises awareness to the ease of camping in Call of Duty.

This ideology is especially rife in Hardcore Modes. Unless a camper’s position is compromised fairly quickly then they can remain undetected and reel off an easy streak of kills without breaking a sweat.

Visibility is proving to be one of the main sore points for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Hopefully Treyarch are fully aware of this and will be updating it in the future.
