Warzone, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops Cold War’s weapons have several different scopes for you to choose from. YouTuber JGOD has broken down the meta Cold War Optics for Warzone Season 3.
The VLK 3.0x Optic has long been the meta scope for Warzone’s Assault Rifles, boasting perfect magnification and low visual recoil. However, Cold War’s weapons don’t use the same scopes, so players have been searching for the best Optic to use for the 1980s weapons in Season 3.
The CR-56 AMAX has become the Season 3 meta, and because it’s a Modern Warfare weapon, players can equip the VLK Optic. It’s confirmed to be receiving a nerf soon, so YouTuber JGOD believes Cold War’s Assault Rifles will become the meta afterward.
Ahead of the AMAX’s nerf, JGOD has broken down the best Optics for Cold War’s Sniper Rifles and Assault Rifles.
After Raven Software fixed the glitched sniper scopes that had no glint, all high-zoom Modern Warfare scopes now reveal your position. JGOD has explained why the Royal and Cross 4x scope is the best for Cold War snipers, as it actually gives you an advantage over MW scopes.
Cold War’s 4x has stronger magnification than it says, bringing it closer to Modern Warfare’s standard Sniper Scope. However, as it’s listed as a 4x, it has no glint. You’ll be able to line up targets without them ever knowing where you are.
For Cold War’s Assault Rifles, JGOD described how the SUSAT Multizoom is the best Optic. While having decent magnification, what makes the SUSAT so great is that it has no visual recoil. It doesn’t affect the weapon’s true recoil, but you won’t see the screen shake and the reticle won’t rise nearly as much.
The scope will slow your aim down sight speed, so JGOD recommends using the SUSAT Multizoom with the Serpent Wrap to maximize recoil control and ADS speed.
After the CR-56 AMAX is nerfed, JGOD believes Cold War rifles with the SUSAT will become Season 3’s meta.

NICKMERCS reveals his powerful “no recoil” Warzone Season 3 Grau
Top Warzone streamer NICKMERCS has revealed his “no recoil” Grau 5.56 loadout, which he says is a great choice in Season 3.
The Grau 5.56 dominated Warzone’s meta in the early months of the game, and following significant nerfs to Cold War’s weapons in Season 3, top streamer Nick “NICKMERCS” Kolcheff believes it’s back.
Warzone has gone through several weapon metas, but many players consider the Grau 5.56 to be the best and most balanced. A nerf to the Grau all the way back in July 2020, buffs to other weapons, and the integration of Cold War’s guns made the Grau somewhat lackluster.
However, following nerfs made in Warzone’s Season 3 update, streamer NICKMERCS believes that the Grau has climbed back to the top of the pack. After members of Nick’s community said he should try the Grau, citing popular YouTuber JGOD, he tried it out again with great success.
Using the Grau, NICKMERCS was on pace for a 40 kill game and said it’s likely that it’ll be one of the best gameplays he’ll upload for a while. Even though he didn’t hit the 40, he still put up a more than respectable 30 kill game.
Nick built his Grau 5.56 out for range, using the previous meta attachments for the weapon. As stated in the title of the video, his Grau is built to have “no recoil,” capable of lasering enemies at medium and long-range with pinpoint accuracy.
NICKMERCS’ Grau 5.56 loadout for Season 3
- Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
- Barrel: Tempus 26.2″ Archangel
- Optic: VLK 3.0x Optic
- Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
- Ammunition: 60 Round Mags
Nick’s Grau 5.56 is designed to beam enemies at medium-long range with no recoil. For extra range, he added the Monolithic Suppressor and Tempus 26.2″ Archangel barrel. These attachments vastly improve the weapon’s bullet velocity and damage over distance.
To make sure he accurately hits these long-range shots, NICKMERCS used the VLK 3.0x Optic because it provides an unobtrusive picture of targets, and the Commando Foregrip almost completely removes the recoil. And finally, Nick used the 60 Round Mags to take out multiple targets without having to reload.

CoD: Warzone Season 3 hit by secret Cold War Sniper Rifle changes
TrueGameData has discovered that several of Black Ops Cold War’s Sniper Rifles have been hit with secret nerfs in Warzone Season 3.
After testing out some of CoD: Cold War’s Sniper Rifles in Warzone Season 3, TrueGameData has discovered the startling revelation that they have been secretly nerfed.
The battle royale is still completely integrated with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and weapons such as the LW3 and ZRG 20mm have been popular choices for many players. However, this may not be the case as the discovery of secret nerfs may negatively impact their usability.
Investigative YouTuber Anthony Zachman, known for TrueGameData, excels at making deep videos discussing the analytical aspects of Call of Duty’s guns.
He tests them out and compares the data to other weapons and against previous states of the gun.
Cold War Pelington 703 nerfed in Warzone Season 3
The first weapon to be looked at was the Pelington 703, with the bullet velocity of the Sniper Rifle down to 967 from the 1050 region.
It appears as if the 27.2″ Combat Recon barrel has been nerfed with Anthony saying, “The Pelington was in a good spot before, but now it’s kinda pointless, like there’s no reason to use the Pelington over the [Kar98k].”
Cold War LW3 Tundra nerfed in Warzone Season 3
At one point the LW3 Tundra was an extremely popular choice for Sniper Rifle enthusiasts thanks to its incredible bullet velocity. Anthony says it was around 1250 and was “the fastest in the game with the Combat Recon [barrel]”
But upon closer inspection, using the Wrapped Suppressor and the 29.1″ Combat Recon drops the bullet velocity to a shocking 1130. According to Anthony the LW3 is now “slower than the HDR and the ZRG.”
“I don’t know why they did this, I don’t know if it was on purpose or not, but there’s literally no reason to use the LW3 now.”
Cold War ZRG 20mm unchanged in Warzone Season 3
Interestingly, despite the same barrel now affecting the LW3, Pelington, and even the M82, Raven Software appears to have left the ZRG alone.
“The ZRG somehow dodged that nerf so with the Combat Recon barrel, even though this is a Cold War gun, you still get the same bullet velocity as before – so it’s the fastest still”, Anthony explained.
At 1230, the ZRG still retains the fastest bullet velocity, making it one of the best weapons to use in Warzone Season 3.
We don’t know why these changes have happened or why they haven’t been properly documented. It’s either a mistake with the barrel and the guns, or Raven wanted to keep it a secret. Either way, the HDR, Kar98k, and ZRG 20mm are now your best bets for success in Warzone Season 3.
If anything changes on the situation or there are any official updates then we’ll be the first to let you know at Charlie INTEL.

New CoD: Warzone tease hints at Rambo coming soon
Call of Duty have teased that 1980s movie icon Rambo will be joining Warzone’s Operator roster in Season 3.
Call of Duty’s Twitter account to have hinted that another movie icon will be joining Warzone, with Rambo being teased.
Warzone has now undergone its full 1980s overhaul, with Verdansk ’84 becoming the new Warzone map. Cold War-era weapons litter the ground, and several Operators have the retro 80s aesthetic. However, the overhaul could be going further, with a 1980s movie icon teased to be joining the game.
When you think of a classic 80s action blockbuster, Rambo is likely one of the first movies to come to mind. The action series follows Vietnam vet John Rambo as he takes down hundreds of foes, and now it’s likely he’ll be deploying to Verdansk in the coming weeks.
Call of Duty’s official Twitter account shared a Warzone Report of a mysterious player, SURVIVORJOHN#1009062, on May 5. The first hint is quite clear, with ‘John’ being Rambo’s first name. However, a deeper dive into the stats have made this connection all the more likely.
The player’s stats line up with Rambo’s various outings in the movies, with five games played matching the five films, seven hours played matching the films’ total runtime, and 552 kills equalling his reported on-screen kills.
Call of Duty teased this further by replying to a tweet from April 28 asking, “now that Warzone is set in the 80s, how about adding in some 80’s action heroes in the game like Rambo, Terminator, Chuck Norris, and The A-Team.” CoD quote-tweeted the question with a thinking face emoji.
These teasers make it extremely likely that John Rambo will be arriving in Warzone as either an Operator or as an Operator skin. There could also be accompanying 80s-themed weapon Blueprints, such as his iconic M60 and Survival Knife.
When will Rambo be in Warzone?
Warzone last received movie icons during the Haunting of Verdansk event, with Saw’s Jigsaw and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface joining the game for the event. The official roadmap shows that Warzone Season 3 Reloaded, the midseason update, will feature a Midseason Event.
Activision hasn’t revealed any details of this event, other than there will be “new Limited Time Modes, rewards, and more.” There’s no guarantee this event will be similar to the Haunting of Verdansk, but it’s possible for the Rambo skin to arrive with this Midseason Event.
Stay tuned to Charlie INTEL for all exciting upcoming Operators, including the Soap McTavish bundle which is still yet to release.
