How old is Link in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom continues Link’s story after Breath of the Wild, and players are wondering exactly how old the beloved protagonist is at this point in the franchise. Here’s how old Link is in Tears of the Kingdom.

There is a ton of brand-new content for The Legend of Zelda fans to check out in Tears of the Kingdom as the Breath of the Wild sequel has brought new features and locations along with a new storyline to progress through.

Players are able to hop back into the role of Link after the events of Breath of the Wild, but exactly how old is the popular main character at this point in The Legend of Zelda’s story? We’ll go over everything that we know.

Who is Link in The Legend of Zelda?

Link is the main protagonist of The Legend of Zelda series, but his history is a bit complicated. Link isn’t just the name of one person and is instead a title given to the hero that the goddesses choose to battle evil in Hyrule.

So, while the protagonist of The Legend of Zelda games is called Link, it’s not always the exact same character. According to Hyrule Historia, Link was 10 years old in the first game that was released in 1986, which should make him 37 today.

However, he clearly does not look 37 years old in Tears of the Kingdom, so figuring out his age in the Breath of the Wild series is a bit tricky.

How old is Link in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Nintendo have not officially confirmed Link’s age in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, it’s likely that he is approximately 18 years old based on clues that were provided to players in Breath of the Wild.

In that title, Princess Zelda makes it clear that in order to visit the Spring of Wisdom after climbing Mt. Lanayru, you need to be at least 17 years old. Since Link is able to do that, it’s highly likely that he is 17 or older in Breath of the Wild.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that Link wakes up from a 100-year-long sleep at the start of Breath of the Wild’s story. So, he may actually be closer to 118 years old by the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Since it’s not clear exactly how much time has passed between Tears of the Kingdom and its predecessor, Link will likely be around the same age or slightly older. Hopefully, Nintendo will give us a definite answer at some point in the future.
