A spyglass allows you to zoom in Minecraft by reducing your Field of View. Statistically, it cuts down the FOV to 1/10th of what it originally was. For instance, if your original FOV is 70, using a spyglass will cut it down to 7.
Do note that you need a powerful device/console to fully utilize a spyglass. This is because the spyglass will let you zoom in on the areas that are already being rendered by the system. If your default render distance is as low as 2 or 5, you won’t really be seeing anything new with a spyglass.
On the other hand, players with a device that can handle high render distances (above 30) should really enjoy exploring with a spyglass. Ideally, it will help them in spotting temples, biomes, and animals, among other things.
