Modern Warfare 2’s campaign is already set to feature fan-favorite characters like Price, Soap, and Ghost, but it seems Infinity Ward teased another iconic inclusion in their latest gameplay trailer.

Modern Warfare 2’s October 28 release date is fast approaching, but players who pre-order the brand-new Call of Duty title will gain access to the campaign on October 20. This applies to digital pre-orders of the game and players are excited to get their hands on the campaign before jumping into multiplayer modes.

The Modern Warfare 2 campaign will see Task Force 141 team up with Mexican Special Forces to stop a terrorist threat. Players will get to see fan favorites like Captain Price and Ghost back in action, but it seems like Infinity Ward is planning to reintroduce another familiar character.

The campaign-centric gameplay trailer gave us another in-depth look at Modern Warfare 2’s campaign. The cinematic trailer showcases Task Force 141 as they collaborate with Colonel Alejandro Vargas and Mexican Special Forces.

However, right at the start of the trailer, we get a glimpse of a character played by Glenn Morshower. The character seems to be some sort of General, and upon further inspection, a Shepherd nametag could be spotted on the General’s uniform.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Lieutenant General Shepherd played a major role in Modern Warfare 2 (2009). General Shepherd famously betrays Task Force 141 in Modern Warfare 2 in one of the most gut-wrenching scenes in Call of Duty campaign history.

Some players may feel confused by the inclusion of Shepherd in Modern Warfare 2 due to the fact that the character eventually dies in Modern Warfare 2 (2009). However, this looks to be an entirely different version of the original Shepherd.

Modern Warfare 2’s campaign details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that this campaign and the campaign from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 share a different timeline and continuity so anything is possible when it comes to returning characters.
