Activision have confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 is now the fastest-selling Call of Duty game of all time, beating out Black Ops 2 as the best-seller and having more online players than any other launch.

Following the major success of Modern Warfare 2019 and Warzone, Call of Duty players were desperate to get their hands on Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and the upcoming Warzone 2.0. After a ton of pre-order incentives including campaign early access, the full game went live on October 28.

Ten days on, Activision have confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 has become the best-selling Call of Duty game since 2012’s Black Ops 2 and featuring the most online players seen in a CoD title’s first ten days.

As of November 7, Modern Warfare 2 surpassed $1 billion sales in its first ten days, becoming “the fastest selling Call of Duty game ever.” This beat Black Ops 2’s record set in 2012, which “took 15 days to reach the number.”

In the full statement from Activision, they claim that Modern Warfare 2 players have “played more than 200 million hours and over 1 billion matches across PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms” since its October 28 launch.

Modern Warfare 2 is now the “highest grossing entertainment opening of 2022,” the “#1 top selling opening in franchise history topping $800 million in sell-through following its first three days of release,” and Warzone 2 is yet to arrive.

To give an example of how much money this is, Modern Warfare 2 is the highest-grossing entertainment launch of 2022, outselling Top Gun: Maverick and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ “worldwide box office openings combined.”

The developers will now be looking to Warzone 2’s free-to-play launch and the highly anticipated DMZ mode on November 16, which also brings the first major content update with Season 1.
