A Call of Duty leaker has revealed more details about the third mode expected to feature in Modern Warfare 2, DMZ, which has been long-rumored to take cues from Escape from Tarkov.

Modern Warfare 2 is a name that sparks great excitement within the CoD community, so it’s no surprise to see plenty of buzz around the 2022 installment with the same title. The possibility of returning maps and weapons in multiplayer will no doubt be the main draw, but it also appears that Infinity Ward are trying some new things this time around.

Aside from the campaign and PVP multiplayer modes, most CoD entries come with a third mode – Spec Ops in the original MW2 and Zombies in the Treyarch-developed games.

‘DMZ’, inspired by Escape from Tarkov, is the final mode rumored to make up Modern Warfare 2, and a CoD leaker has offered up some fresh details on what the devs have in store.

Modern Warfare 2 Operators

In a thread of tweets on May 6, Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope claimed that the DMZ will launch in beta form at the same time as Modern Warfare 2’s release

Quoting an unnamed source, expected to work for either Activision or Infinity Ward, they said: “Something like the DMZ doesn’t become final until the general public has gotten hands on it. It’s a large mode that needs maintenance.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that a new mode in the CoD series received a beta. Black Ops IIII’s Blackout battle royale launched as a free trial for those who preordered the game, before being made available for everyone for a short time.

However, this would mark the first time that a feature like this releases in beta at the same time as the full game hits shelves. Fans can expect plenty of updates and improvements as Infinity Ward tries to perfect the mode.

For as long as DMZ has been rumored, comparisons to Battlestate Games’ Escape From Tarkov have been unavoidable. In a later tweet, TheGhostOfHope seemed to hint that these are accurate.

When asked how the mode is similar to Escape from Tarkov, the leaker responded: “What you take with you you can lose. [It’s] more tactical. Etc.”

In Tarkov, players carry out raids and fight against both bots and other players to secure valuable loot, then plot an escape. It’s a far more challenging and methodical experience than standard CoD multiplayer, so it will be interesting to see how Infinity Ward adapts it in Modern Warfare 2.

Of course, these are all just leaks and rumors until Activision gives us official confirmation. With the gameplay reveal expected soon, fans hopefully won’t have to wait too long to see DMZ in action.

In the meantime be sure to check out some other Modern Warfare 2 leaks, including the rumored return of the Last Perk and the possible reworking of SBMM.

Leaked Modern Warfare 2 DMZ mode: Tarkov-inspired gameplay, map, more

CoD leakers claim a third ‘DMZ’ mode will arrive as part of Modern Warfare 2, so here’s everything we know about it.

Although not officially confirmed, there have been a ton of leaks surrounding Modern Warfare 2 featuring a third mode called the ‘DMZ.’ This is set to be an Escape from Tarkov-inspired extraction game, so here’s everything we know about the leaked mode so far.

Traditionally, a Call of Duty game comes with three modes – campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies/Spec Ops. Warzone 2 is confirmed to be in development alongside MW2, and according to leakers, Modern Warfare 2‘s third mode will be called the ‘DMZ.’

A ton of leaks and rumors surround the DMZ but with nothing officially confirmed, we recommend taking this information with a pinch of salt. Here’s everything that’s been leaked so far, including how the DMZ mode works, its expected release date, map, and marketplace.

What is Modern Warfare 2’s leaked DMZ mode?

Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ is set to be an Escape from Tarkov-themed extraction style game mode. This is where players load into the map and must battle both other players and AI before extracting loot which can be used again or sold.

It’s still unclear whether DMZ (demilitarized zone) will be the official name or is just an internal name. The mode has reportedly been in development since late 2018, and Henderson quoted an anonymous dev, who said: “This has been built from the ground up with the mode in mind, it’s not just an afterthought.”

In Escape from Tarkov, anything you take into the raid will be lost if you die, meaning taking high-tier loot comes with a high risk/reward, and DMZ will reportedly have the same mechanic.

Does Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ have a release date?

According to leaker TheGhostOfHope, the DMZ is set to arrive with Modern Warfare 2’s launch but will arrive in beta.

Hope quoted their source, who explained: “Something like the DMZ doesn’t become final until the general public has gotten hands on it. It’s a large mode that needs maintenance.”

Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but you can expect it to release in fall 2022.

Leaked Modern Warfare 2 DMZ map

Tom Henderson believes Warzone 2 and DMZ will share a map, but other leakers TheGhostOfHope and RalphsValve claim it will have several.

Tom Henderson has long believed that the DMZ will share its map with Warzone 2, which is reportedly set in Central America and will feature classic MW2 maps such as Highrise, Quarry, and Terminal.

Henderson claims a source sent them an image of the DMZ map, and they were able to verify that it was indeed DMZ. “Now nearly six months on, a newly acquired source has sent me the Warzone 2 map, which is identical to the DMZ map,” he explained in his eXputer report.

Then, leaker TheMW2Ghost tweeted a recreation of what they claim to be both Warzone 2 and the DMZs map.

However, TheGhostOfHope and RalphsValve have claimed since November that there will be multiple DMZ maps. Hope appears adamant that there will be around four but without DMZ being official, there’s no way of knowing for sure.

DMZ mode reportedly brings marketplace with tradeable items

According to the GhostOfHope, Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode will bring a marketplace where “items can be bought and traded.” This sounds similar to Escape from Tarkov, where players can buy, sell, and trade their loot with other players.

In the same leak, Hope claimed that “You are able to earn skins, blueprints and more from ‘DMZ’ that are usable across Multiplayer and eventually Warzone 2.” They don’t believe you’ll be able to trade Blueprints, though.

Of course, neither Activision nor Infinity Ward have confirmed that the DMZ mode is in development, so take this all with a heavy pinch of salt.

Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are still months out, so you can check out everything we know about Warzone Season 3 Reloaded and Season 4 in the meantime.

Modern Warfare 2 leak reveals Warzone 2 & DMZ map

A new Modern Warfare 2 leak claims to show off the brand-new map that will feature in both Warzone 2 and the Tarkov-inspired DMZ.

Call of Duty leaker TheMW2Ghost claims to have recreated Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2’s ‘DMZ’ map, showing its general layout.

A ton of leaks and rumors surrounding Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 have dropped over the past couple of days detailing Warzone 2’s new mechanics, the classic Modern Warfare 2 maps arriving as POIs, and the DMZ’s marketplace with tradeable items.

Now, leaker TheMW2Ghost has shown off what they claim to be the general layout of the map that will reportedly be shared between both Warzone 2 and the Escape from Tarkov-inspired DMZ.

Rather than showing off what they claim to be the DMZ and Warzone 2’s map, TheMW2Ghost has drawn a “remake based off of the actual map image,” so it isn’t the official artwork.

The map doesn’t give a ton of detail, but it shows what appears to be roads or train tracks passing through the map. Also, there’s a large river cutting through the middle of the map, with a lake on the eastern side.

There are a few icons on the map, but we’re not sure what they mean. The locks could indicate the Strongholds that both YouTuber NerosCinema and Henderson claim will allow players to get their loadouts, but there’s no guarantee.

Previous leaks have indicated that this map will be based in Central America, taking inspiration from Medellín, Colombia, but the recreation doesn’t confirm this one way or the other.

Of course, this is just a leak for now so there’s no guarantee that this is what Warzone 2 and the DMZ’s map will look like. We expect to hear more from Activision and Infinity Ward later this year, so stay tuned.

Modern Warfare 2 leak claims DMZ mode will bring marketplace with tradeable items

According to new leaks, Modern Warfare 2 players will be able to purchase and trade items in the DMZ mode’s marketplace.

Modern Warfare 2’s third mode, which leakers are calling ‘DMZ,’ is reportedly heavily inspired by Escape from Tarkov, and new leaks claim that it will feature a marketplace with tradeable items.

Escape from Tarkov kicked off the extraction-style game mode, which is now featured in Hunt Showdown, Battlefield 2042, and, reportedly, Modern Warfare 2. Players drop into an area and get to keep everything they can extract with but lose everything they’re carrying if they die.

Tarkov has a marketplace where you can purchase and trade items with other players, and leaker GhostOfHope claims that Modern Warfare 2’s Escape from Tarkov-inspired DMZ mode will bring a similar marketplace.

CoD leaker TheGhostOfHope tweeted on May 15 that “Modern Warfare II’s third mode ‘DMZ’ will include a marketplace where items can be bought and traded.” This sounds extremely similar to Escape from Tarkov, where players can purchase weapons, ammo, equipment, and more from other players.

The type of currency players will use is still up in the air, though. One player asked Ghost whether it’ll run off CoD Points or an in-game currency, and the leaker replied: “Just gonna say… we’ll see.”

Escape from Tarkov players can earn rubles, the in-game currency, by completing missions and selling gear they find in Raids. If DMZ does include a marketplace, we’ll just have to wait and see how Activision and Infinity Ward decide to run it.

TheGhostOfHope also claimed that “You are able to earn skins, blueprints and more from ‘DMZ’ that are usable across Multiplayer and eventually Warzone 2.” However, they said that they “don’t think you’ll be able to trade blueprints per say.”

There was an uproar back when leaks claimed that Activision were considering bringing NFTs to Call of Duty, and players were immediately concerned that they’d arrive with DMZ’s marketplace. However, TheGhostOfHope reiterated that Activision aren’t doing NFTs, which is backed up by Blizzard President Mike Ybarra’s “No one is doing NFTs” tweet.

The DMZ mode will reportedly launch alongside Modern Warfare 2 but in beta, with the sequel to Warzone arriving post-launch.
