Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer introduces two brand-new modes for players to compete in, with Gunfight-esque Knockout and Rainbow Six Siege-inspired Prisoner Rescue joining the fray.

We’re officially on the road to Modern Warfare 2, with the first gameplay trailer dropping on June 8, along with a first look at the campaign at Summer Games Fest on June 9.

On top of all that, there’s a mountain of information available thanks to Infinity Ward, who invited content creators to check out an early build of the game. As part of this early-access event, CharlieIntel were able to get hands-on with the game.

As always, multiplayer is vital part of the latest Call of Duty title. While your favorite modes like Hardpoint and Search & Destroy return, there are two new game types for players to enjoy: Knockout and Prisoner Rescue.

Knockout

When Modern Warfare released back in 2019, one of the headline additions was Gunfight. This 2v2 game mode gave players 40 seconds to kill the enemy eam, otherwise, they had to fight for the Overtime flag to snatch the round win.

For Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward have taken the tried and true Gunfight mode and melded it with regular multiplayer, creating Knockout.

Knockout is a 6v6 mode where players have one life. Like Warzone, you can revive a teammate, but once your whole team is down, the round is finished. Players will fight for control of a package, with whoever holds the package at the end declared the winner.

Prisoner Rescue

If you’ve ever played Rainbow Six Siege, you’ll immediately recognize Prisoner Rescue. In this mode, teams are split into attack and defense, just like Search and Destroy.

The attackers are tasked with rescuing the hostages and extracting them from the building, while defenders attempt to protect them from the insurgents.

Modern Warfare 2 players will be able to breach doors and walls like in Rainbow Six Siege, and victory comes through either eliminating the other team or completing your objective.

Multiplayer in Modern Warfare 2 is set for a major shakeup. Infinity Ward have also added new Field Upgrades, including a Tactical Camera and DDOS EMP, major movement changes with the introduction of swimming, and some seismic changes to Gunsmith too.

Thankfully, players will be able to get their hands on the game in the not too distant future, as Infinity Ward confirmed a multiplayer beta would be available before Modern Warfare’s October 28 release.

Modern Warfare 2 leak details DMZ mode gameplay & objectives

Although Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ is still unofficial, dataminers have reportedly uncovered the mode’s objectives.

There’s a ton of hype over the leaked Tarkov-inspired ‘DMZ’ mode that’s coming to Modern Warfare 2, and it appears Warzone Mobile’s game files have revealed the mode’s gameplay and objective.

Modern Warfare 2 arrives later in 2022, bringing a globe-trotting campaign, Spec Ops, and Warzone 2.0. But there’s still one mode that Infinity Ward have yet to confirm, although a ton of leaks and rumors surround it — DMZ.

Short for ‘demilitarized zone,’ DMZ is set to be Call of Duty’s answer to extraction-based games such as Escape from Tarkov. Images of Modern Warfare 2’s maps leaked through Warzone Mobile’s game files, and this has also revealed DMZ’s gameplay and objectives.

CoD leaker ‘Reality’ claims to have discovered a ton of Modern Warfare 2 info in Warzone Mobile’s game files, including the maps, weapons, and even concept art for Treyarch’s CoD 2024

Included in these game files were a ton of strings for DMZ, detailing the missions and objectives Modern Warfare 2 players will have to undertake. These include searching marked areas for radioactivity, destroying supplies, finding intel, and extracting.

It appears that radioactivity will play a large part in DMZ, where players will need to secure radioactive material and “acquire Geiger counters from the cache.”

Players will also need to rescue hostages and defend safes they’ve opened from Hostiles. It sounds like the DMZ mode will be absolutely chock-full of content, offering players even more objectives than Escape from Tarkov.

It still appears it will still have a similar gameplay loop though, where players have to “extract safely.” The mode hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but insider Tom Henderson has claimed that it won’t be free to play and will launch with Modern Warfare 2.

With the multiplayer reveal and beta still to come, we should know much more about the mode in the run-up to October 28. In the meantime, be sure to check out how to get the free Final Judgement bundle in Warzone with Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2 insider claims new DMZ mode will not be free to play

Renowned leaker Tom Henderson has claimed that Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode will not be a free to play experience upon release.

Information concerning Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode continues to arise prior to the game’s October 28 release. Amidst confusion surrounding what the mode will entail, leaker Tom Henderson has claimed that DMZ will not be free to play.

Call of Duty fans got their first look at what to expect from Modern Warfare 2 during the Campaign gameplay reveal that took place at Summer Game Fest. Furthermore, leaks have also revealed images of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps.

While new information continues to shed light on the upcoming Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode remains shrouded in mystery. Despite the lack of information concerning the mode, a report from Tom Henderson suggests that DMZ will not be free to play.

The DMZ mode will be a fresh experience for Call of Duty fans as Escape from Tarkov-like extraction-based gameplay is set to take center stage.

Not much is known about the mode, but Henderson did previously reveal that DMZ and Warzone 2 would share a map consisting of classic Modern Warfare 2 POIs.

On July 4, Henderson published another report that brings players one step closer to understanding what the DMZ mode will entail.

It seems the mystery surrounding the mode has led to several false rumors, including one that had players believing DMZ would be a free-to-play experience like Warzone.

Henderson claims that this expectation is false: “Although the future of the DMZ could become free-to-play, that’s currently not the plan. Instead, the DMZ will be tied to Modern Warfare 2 as another mode.”

The industry insider does not rule out the possibility of DMZ eventually adopting a free to play model, but at launch, it will be considered a mode available to players who purchase Modern Warfare 2.

As the October 28 release date for Modern Warfare 2 approaches, inaccurate rumors should cease, while clarity over the game’s modes like DMZ is expected to grow.

CoD players are desperate to see which weapons we can expect to see in Modern Warfare 2 later this year, and a ton of the weapons have reportedly leaked through Warzone Mobile’s files.

Modern Warfare 2019 fans absolutely loved the weapons and their realistic animations, and Modern Warfare 2 is set to bring the same level of quality.

We’ve already seen and heard some of these weapons in action in the Dark Water mission gameplay reveal, and a dev has responded to fears over reused animations.

Dataminers reportedly uncovered images of Modern Warfare 2 and Treyarch’s CoD 2024’s maps in Warzone Mobile‘s game files, but they also found a list of the weapons coming to the game.

AX-50 Sniper Rifle in CoD Warzone

Dataminer ‘Reality’ has claimed to reveal the Modern Warfare 2019 weapons we can expect to return in Modern Warfare 2 as well as the brand-new additions.

Modern Warfare 2 is a direct sequel to 2019, taking place roughly three years later, and players can expect to see fan favorites such as the Bruen Mk9, M4, and AX-50 Sniper Rifle return.

There are also some brand-new weapons found in the game files, such as the STG A3 and the Bryson 800. You can check out the full list of leaked Modern Warfare 2 weapons below:

  • LM-S
  • M4
  • Bryson 800
  • STG A3
  • Lockwood 725
  • X12
  • Revive Pistol
  • Lachmann Sub
  • AX-50

  • PSDW 50
  • Sakin 9
  • RPG-7
  • PILA
  • JOKR
  • Strela-P
  • LMP
  • Bruen Mk9

Players also spotted weapons such as the SCAR, EBR-14, P90, G3, and AK-47 in the campaign gameplay trailer, so it’s likely that the majority of the weapons have been both leaked and revealed.

However, the new Gunsmith system includes weapon branches where one gun can create several, so there may be several weapons we haven’t seen yet.

We’ll likely need to wait until the multiplayer gameplay reveal and beta to have a better understanding of what weapons we’ll see in the full game.
