Modern Warfare 2 PlayStation Early Access beta start time

Modern Warfare 2’s PlayStation Early Access beta kicks off on September 16 and will go live at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST.

PlayStation players who have preordered or have a beta code can preload the beta on their PS4 or PS5 right now, so they can be ready to jump into matches immediately.

How to get a Modern Warfare 2 beta code

Modern Warfare 2 will have open beta periods, but if you want to get into the action early, you’ll need a beta code.

The best way to get an MW2 beta code is to preorder the game. Order a physical copy of the game, and you’ll receive a beta code you can redeem on the Call of Duty website. Anyone who buys a digital copy from the PlayStation or Xbox store will be automatically registered for the beta.

How to redeem your Modern Warfare 2 beta code

Redeeming your Modern Warfare 2 beta code is easy. Simply head to the official Call of Duty website, and follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Activision account. If you don’t have an Activision account, you’ll need to create one.
  2. Enter your early access code.
  3. Once successfully redeemed, you’ll receive an Early Access Beta token via the email linked to your Activision account.
  4. Open the store on your preferred platform, and enter the Early Access Beta code to start downloading the beta.

Modern Warfare 2 beta release date

The Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta will get underway on September 16 for those on PlayStation who preordered the game for two days before it opens up to everyone else on the platform from September 18 to 20.

The following weekend, Xbox and PC owners who preordered Modern Warfare 2 will be able to hop in from September 22 to 23, while all PlayStation users will once again have access to the open beta.

Finally, from September 24 till 26, the Modern Warfare 2 open beta will open its doors to everyone regardless of platform. We’ve got a full recap of the beta dates below:

  • September 16-17: PlayStation early access
  • September 18-20: PlayStation open beta
  • September 22-23: Xbox and PC early access, PlayStation open beta
  • September 24-26: Open beta on all platforms

Why is Modern Warfare 2 beta on PlayStation first?

Although Microsoft are in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, the deal hasn’t gone through yet so Sony’s marketing deal with Call of Duty still stands — meaning Modern Warfare 2’s beta will hit PlayStation consoles first.

Thanks to this deal, PlayStation players have had early access to alphas and betas, exclusive modes, more create-a-class slots, and free cosmetics in Combat Packs. On June 8, Activision confirmed that PlayStation players would receive Modern Warfare 2’s beta at least five days earlier than any other platform.

Whether Xbox players will receive similar benefits when the acquisition goes through remains to be seen, but reports indicate that the PlayStation deal will remain for the next few CoD games.
