After a Modern Warfare 2 gameplay clip with sounds from the 2009 version of MW2 edited in went viral, Call of Duty fans are begging Infinity Ward for a “classic” audio pack to bring that nostalgia to 2022.

Modern Warfare 2 players are excited for the full game’s October 28 release following the conclusion of the multiplayer beta, which set a new participation record for the Call of Duty franchise.

After listening to player feedback from the beta, Infinity Ward are making improvements to things like the in-game audio. Now, a viral clip has caused players to ask the developers for one new addition.

A gameplay clip from YouTuber ‘Ghosts619’ became extremely popular because it showcased audio from the original Modern Warfare 2 being used in the 2022 title. Players immediately recognized familiar sound cues and voice lines from the 2009 Call of Duty game.

These audio cues were implemented in the new game seamlessly, and players in a Reddit thread called for Infinity Ward to take inspiration from this by adding a “classic MW2 sounds pack.”

Many of the commenters were nostalgic after hearing voice lines from the original title, and the overall sound direction received a ton of praise throughout the thread. Some felt that it was better than it is in recent Call of Duty titles.

One commenter wrote: “The original MW2’s voice acting and music were superb. You can tell how much effort they had put into that game. It just made the whole experience feel more badass.”

While many users expressed their desire to see the return of the original voice lines, a few stated that they should still keep the gunfire sounds from the new Modern Warfare 2 as they are “really nicely done.”

One player described the original game’s audio and sound design as “ahead of [its] time,” but then added that “nothing compares to MW 2019 and MW2’s gun sounds.” Quite a few commenters shared this sentiment.

At the time of writing, Infinity Ward haven’t announced any plans to add a classic MW2 DLC audio pack to the new Call of Duty game. If they implement something like that, we’ll be sure to let you know.
