Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 still hasn’t been fully revealed just yet, but it already seems apparent that the much-requested Gunfight mode will be absent for a little while longer yet.

Players of the latest annual shooter in Activision’s famed FPS franchise – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – have been a bit frustrated as of late with several aspects regarding the game.

The game’s Perk system continues to cop flak and consumers are furious that Warzone 2, the free-to-play CoD battle royale, has received far more attention and news heading into Season 2 of the respective games.

Matters have only been exacerbated by the rumored news that Gunfight, a beloved mode from Modern Warfare 2019, is going to continue its exile from the Modern Warfare series for maybe another season.

Gunfight was one of the MW 2019 reboot’s standout highlights and became a reoccurring game mode and would form the basis of Warzone’s Gulag encounters.

So it’s no surprise that Modern Warfare 2 players have been desperate for Gunfight to return. It wasn’t all that long ago that leaked files showed the existence of Gunfight in MW2, so it seemed like only a matter of time until the fan-favorite playlist option made its triumphant return.

Unfortunately, according to what CharlieIntel has heard, players waiting on the addition of Gunfight for Season 2 are likely to be disappointed.

Given that Modern Warfare 2 player numbers are continuing to drop off, some players feel this is a rather questionable decision on the devs’ part.

“That’s because they’ll wait until they really need it, maybe Season 3 or 4, for more player retention. Don’t be ridiculous, they can’t let us have the fun content early on in the life cycle! It’s also why we likely won’t get party modes (Infected, Gun Game, etc) for another couple seasons too. Welcome to Call of Duty Dripfeed Warfare,” said one player on a subreddit thread about the issue.

One heated comment came from Reddit user XCalibur672: “All the monetization sh*t has ruined any sort of incentive for me to play online multiplayer games by myself. So I’m more and more only playing single-player games now, and I’m finding that a lot more worthwhile.”

If all the rumored information does come to fruition, it will be interesting to see how much this impacts Modern Warfare 2 and the following weeks after.

After the Season 2 delay and the likes of Warzone 2 getting a whole new Resurgence map, the backlash from MW2 players may only increase.
