The Battle Pass in Modern Warfare 2 has been completely reinvented and the new setup has gone down quite well with players and fans of the game.

The rise of live service games in the last few years has seen the likes of Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and more pump out a seasonal Battle Pass every couple of months for players to earn more content.

There are always free Tiers to ensure that everyone gets a piece of the pie, but there’s always a paid version that usually comes with around 100 Tiers of extra content for players to unlock.

Most Battle Passes follow a typical format in which you earn enough XP to reach a level, and then you continue on in a linear line unlocking new Tiers in a set order. However, Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 1’s Battle Pass has ripped up the rulebook and implemented a new strategy, and players like it.

For MW2 and WZ2 Season 1, players now have the freedom to decide which items they’d like to unlock first.

Modern Warfare 2 splits its pass up into ‘Sectors,’ with five items per section, requiring Battle Tokens to unlock an item. They can be earned by playing the game naturally, and it offers up freedom not previously seen in CoD games.

On a Modern Warfare 2 post concerning the Battle Pass, one commenter said: “I actually like the idea of choosing what you want to unlock instead of most standard Battle Passes where all players get everything in the same order,” and another user said: “Seems nice for players who don’t tend to finish the whole Battle Pass.”

One final top-rated comment offered: “At first I was worried that we would have to complete challenges to unlock the tier unlock tokens like Fortnite but I’m glad we don’t and can just earn them while playing. I think this is a big improvement on the original Battle Pass formula.”

With players eager to see a legendary CoD matchmaking tool return and the notable issues with the Shoot House map, it will be positive for the devs to see players laud the new Battle Pass changes.
