Modern Warfare 2 reimagines classic 2009 map with Season 3’s Pelayo’s Lighthouse
Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 will introduce a new 6v6 map called Pelayo’s Lighthouse, but after the first gameplay reveal fans have noticed a classic POI from MW2 2009 will appear on the map.
Modern Warfare 2 players have been desperate for more 6v6 maps even the since the game launched last year, and Infinity Ward have started to deliver. Season 2 saw the addition of Valderas Museum, first seen in the beta, and the popular new Himmelmatt Expo map.
The Season 3 update is set to follow the trend by bringing Pelayo’s Lighthouse, which was revealed alongside the new FJX Imperium Sniper Rifle – better known as the Intervention from the original Modern Warfare 2.
Popular content creator FaZe Dirty shared some extended gameplay of Pelayo’s Lighthouse in action, and players immediately noticed a familiar location on the new map.
In Dirty’s video, the YouTuber ran through a house featuring a library, which is identical to the main building from the Estate map in the original game. While it was only onscreen for a few seconds, the layout of the room was immediately recognizable.
Although the rest of the map appears to be completely different from the Estate fans remember from 2009, this will be music to the ears of those who have been calling for more classic maps to make their way into Modern Warfare 2.
Players will still have to wait until Season 3 launches on April 12 to try out Pelayo’s Lighthouse for themselves, but many on Reddit have already heaped praise on the new map, most notably for its choice of weather.
“Finally a dark and rainy map feels like they’ve been terrified of putting anything but sunny maps in for a while,” said TypicaDelay. “Love the rain and the atmosphere on this, MW2 was certainly lacking atmosphere,” agreed Vitzel33.
Meanwhile, others were just happy to have even a small part of Estate reimagined in Modern Warfare 2. “No f**king way, I’ve been asking for Estate and Arkaden from MW3 for so long, that’s dope,” said SinisterMB.
Modern Warfare 2 players will certainly be hoping that the trend of new 6v6 maps continues in future seasons, and there’s still a number of fan-favorite maps that the community would love to see make a comeback.
