Modern Warfare 2 weapon tuning Ranked Play ban

Modern Warfare 2’s Ranked Play has received an update to the competitive ruleset that bans weapon tuning and adds an overlooked Assault Rifle to the list of restricted guns. Here’s what you need to know about the changes to the CDL’s rules.

Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 Reloaded is right around the corner, and players are eager to try out the new Tempus Torrent Marksman Rifle and the Himmelmatt Expo map.

The new map has Ranked Play fans excited as they’re hoping it could spell the end of the insufferable Al Bagra Fortress Control map and mode combination that is driving players crazy.

Of course, Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play is directly linked to the CDL‘s rules and restrictions so any changes will stem from the competitive Call of Duty League.

Prior to the Season 2 Reloaded update, the devs revealed two changes to the CDL competitive ruleset including adding the Kastov 762 to the list of restricted weapons and banning weapon tuning.

Weapon tuning banned in Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play

The changes will hit Modern Warfare 2’s Ranked Play following the Season 2 Reloaded update on March 15.

Fans of Ranked Play will no longer be able to tune their weapon attachments to adjust certain stats. Weapon tuning was a new feature added to Modern Warfare 2, that provides players with more freedom over customizing loadouts and weapons.

It seems the devs have concluded that weapon tuning has no place in the competitive mode as it’s been banned in Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play following an update to the CDL ruleset.

In addition, the underrated Kastov 762 Assault Rifle has also been added to the list of restricted weapons. This ban may come as a surprise to players as unlike the Kastov-74u or ISO Hemlock, the Kastov 762 wasn’t considered particularly overpowered by players.

Nonetheless, the Kastov 762 has been banned from Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play meaning five out of the eleven Assault Rifles available are currently on the restricted list of weapons.

This shouldn’t shake up the best Ranked Play weapons and players should continue to gravitate toward the TAQ-56.

Ultimately, players were pleased with the fact that weapon tuning has been banned with a chorus of W’s found in the replies to the above Tweet.
