Modern Warfare 2’s stat loss prevention system is completely broken

Modern Warfare 2 assures players that joining a game mid-match won’t count as a loss if they’re on the receiving end of a defeat, however, evidence suggests this might not be the case.

As always with Call of Duty matchmaking, there is a chance that you won’t be put into a fresh, clean lobby when you search for a game, and Modern Warfare 2 is no different.

There will be plenty of times when ongoing games need to be filled due to players dropping in and out as a result of connection issues. Another reason players leave is that they’re being well and truly dominated by the other team, leaving holes to be filled.

In the event that you do join one of these games, the game informs players that because they joined midway through the game, it won’t go down as an official loss on their stats. One Modern Warfare 2 player conducted a study to check this, and their findings are startling.

In a post on the game’s subreddit, one user claimed that they had: “Video proof that “Stat loss prevented – Joined in progress” doesn’t work right now and your W/L is still affected.”

In the 46-second video, they did a before and after of their losses with a game of Modern Warfare 2 thrown into the middle.

Before the game, the player had recorded 474 losses, they then joined a match in progress and despite getting the “Stat loss prevented – Joined in progress” message, their official stats showed that they had 475 losses after the game.

Another MW2 Reddit user agreed with the OP, adding: “Yeah, this needs to be addressed,” and another user chimed in: “Yes, finally people are talking about this, can’t believe this hasn’t been fixed yet.”

It also turns out that if you quit after joining a match in progress then you are also hit with a loss too, and players feel this hurts the notion of Win/Loss: “I just ignore WL because of this. I’ll be damned if I join late to a one-sided match or a map I don’t want to play like Border Crossing. I’ll leave over and over until they get the point.”

At the end of the day, this video shows that the Loss Prevention feature is currently not functioning as it should, so it’s likely the devs will look at it in the future.
