The June 3 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks to have introduced some major issues with the game, as players have been voicing their frustrations over the Modern Warfare Multiplayer not working at all for them.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare saw a great deal of success following its 2019 release that ultimately led to the release of Warzone and the use of Modern Warfare’s fan-favorite engine for the Call of Duty Battle royale.
While Warzone and Black Ops Cold War are the main focuses of the franchise right now, Modern Warfare still maintained a healthy and passionate playerbase who enjoyed the game’s Multiplayer action.
However, the community has been reporting over the past day that the Modern Warfare Multiplayer lobbies are not working for them at all, as they are unable to join or play a multitude of modes.
The official Activision Support Twitter account has since posted an announcement on June 4, 2021, that the developers have “resolved an issue” that affected the ability of many players to join Multiplayer games and private matches.
Modern Warfare Multiplayer not working
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare subreddit has been the main area where players have gathered to discuss and provide examples of their experiences with the Modern Warfare Multiplayer not working.
Players have reported that they have been unable to join any match, with many facing an Unknown Function error when trying.
Other players have posted threads stating that they can not currently use the Private Match feature and how they can join a lobby, but then they are kicked from the lobby when the countdown ends and are placed into another lobby where the same things happen.
There has been no official word from Infinity Ward, the developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, or Activision regarding the problems that players are currently having with the game at this time.
We will update this piece with any official information from Infinity Ward or Activision if and when it is made available.

Why is Modern Warfare so big? Huge file size explained
Modern Warfare requires a whopping 175GB, but why? Here’s everything we know about the game’s massive file size.
Modern Warfare has been out for almost two years, and after continuous updates, the game takes up a huge amount of space. Here’s why Modern Warfare’s file size is so huge.
Modern Warfare started life with a massive 175GB requirement to store on drives, making it one of the biggest games ever. While fans assumed that Infinity Ward would work to greatly reduce this number, continuous updates have pushed it higher and higher, and despite their best efforts, it still takes requires the same space as it did at launch.
Obviously, this is a huge amount of space for a game to take up, so players have been trying to figure out why it needs to take such a significant chunk of your drives. Here’s everything we know about why Modern Warfare is so big.
Why does Modern Warfare take up so much space?
File size has always been an issue for Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare. Back in February 2020, one of the game’s producers apologized on Twitter about the size of updates, saying that the team were “constantly trying to fight back against both download size and disk footprint,” as they dropped asset packs to try and reduce the overall size.
The devs tried again in March 2021, reducing the game by 30.6GB, but that just brought it back to 175GB, and still suggested it would need more for mandatory updates.
As for why it’s so large, Infinity Ward have never said officially, but there are plenty of theories. In general, the most accepted idea is the fact that Modern Warfare has too many assets. Some players suggest that holding the cosmetics from the store along with un-compressed textures for maps are what cause these issues, while others believe that Infinity Ward simply didn’t do enough to compress the game down.
Thankfully, there are some ways to bring this number down a little. If you don’t play Modern Warfare multiplayer much, you can choose to delete the game without losing Warzone, while you can choose to uninstall specific portions of the game if you no longer play that mode.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Infinity Ward will reduce the file size any further now, with the game rapidly approaching it’s second birthday. We can only hope that the developers learn some lessons from this game, and their next offering isn’t so hard-drive hungry.

How to fix Warzone & Modern Warfare transmission error
If you’re having trouble with Modern Warfare and Warzone’s transmission error, here’s a list of ways you can go about getting it fixed.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone are not immune to bugs and errors. For those experiencing the Warzone and Modern Warfare transmission error, preventing them from enjoying the game, here’s how to get it fixed.
Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War are about to enter Season 4, with many players excited about what’s to come in the reveal trailer.
Some Call of Duty fans are even still enjoying Modern Warfare 2019. However, it seems a transmission error is ruining the player experience, but luckily there is a fix.
Just like any hugely popular multiplayer game, Warzone and Modern Warfare doesn’t come without its issues. Recently, players have been experiencing some error issues, like the “unknown function” error and the Dev Error 6034.
For those experiencing a transmission error recently for Warzone and Modern Warfare, don’t worry, as there are a few ways you can go about fixing it.
Modern Warfare & Warzone transmission error fix
Here are some of the ways you can fix the “disconnected due to transmission error:”
- Restart the game
- If that doesn’t work, change the NAT type to open on your router.
- Go to UPnP in router settings and enable the option.
- Save your settings and restart the router.
If this still doesn’t fix your issue, try deleting and redownloading the game to get rid of any possibly corrupt data.
Further, if you’re on PlayStation, try rebuilding your database, and if you’re on Xbox, turn Teredo Tunneling on in the settings.
Hopefully, this can resolve your issues with the transmission error and get back on the battlefields of the two popular Call of Duty games, as it seems that every new update brings another host of errors and issues.

How to get back stolen & hacked CoD Activision accounts
Find out how to properly protect your CoD Activision account and retrieve it if its gets stolen or hacked with our guide.
Call of Duty Activision accounts are regularly subjected to theft and hacking, so our guide seeks to help you reclaim stolen CoD accounts, plus we have some other useful methods to keep your account secure and safe.
Whether it’s issues with Call of Duty’s servers, cheating, or the Black Ops Cold War and Warzone stores, there are always problems that need to be tended to. Regardless of the size and wealth of the company, it’s presumably always going to be hard to keep on top of everything.
But questions have been raised about Activision’s ability to restore stolen Call of Duty accounts and provide support to those players. Thankfully, there are various ways to try and reclaim your account, and also ways to protect it from falling into the wrong hands.
Activision Account Recovery for Call of Duty
Many people complain about their Call of Duty account being hacked and/or stolen in whichever CoD title they’re playing.
Players lose access to their data, and most importantly their CoD Points and any purchased bundles or cosmetics. But there is an official process that players need to go through for Activision to be able to take the appropriate action.
To begin proceedings to retrieve your account, you’ll need to contact Activision Support here.
It could take anywhere between 4-10 days for a response on average but maybe longer. This is reasonable given the large volume of queries that Activation presumably deals with on a daily basis.
Live chat & submitting tickets for a quicker Activision Response
Another solution you can try to speed things up yourself is to try and contact a member of Activision’s support team directly.
To do this, you’ll need to complete the following:
- Head to Activision’s ‘Support’ page
- Selection an option from “I need help with”
- Find one that allows you to “Submit a ticket” or will connect you to an advisor to help you personally
Two-Step Authentication CoD Account
If you’ve been successful in retrieving your Activision Account or just want to know how to make it more secure, then it would be wise to enforce Two-Factor Authentication.
It’s now a given to see Two-Factor Authentication across the industry to protect accounts across all forms of media. It’s safe, secure, and easy to protect your account.
Here’s what you’ll need to do to activate Two-factor Authentication for your Activision Account:
- Head to Activision’s Two-Factor Authentication page
- Click ‘Set up Two-Factor Authentication’
- Sign in to your account, if you haven’t made one then do so
- Download the ‘Google Authenticator app’ for your phone or tablet
- Scan the QR Code using the app’s scanner
- Enter the Authentication Code for the App
- Press to complete the process
Now you have a secure setup that only you should be able to access.
It’s understandable that players will be frustrated with Activision for not responding to their queries as they want their account back.
At the same time, there are millions of accounts spread across Cold War, Warzone, CoD: Mobile, and Modern Warfare, with potentially multiple questions per player.
