Mortal Kombat 1 is set to arrive in September 2023, and those looking to sharpen their skills will aim to try the beta to master the reboot ahead of time. Here’s how to play the Mortal Kombat 1 beta.

Developer NetherRealm Studios have confirmed some long-awaited details for the Mortal Kombat 1 beta. This news arrived as fresh air to fans that have been waiting for more news and as they look forward to playing the full version on September 19, 2023.

The reboot promises to bring yet another diverse roster of characters, and fans are already rushing out to pre-order a copy of the game. Here’s how to play the Mortal Kombat 1 beta, including when it’s set to begin.

Mortal Kombat 1 beta: How to play

The Mortal Kombat 1 beta is available to anyone who has pre-ordered the game on a console, regardless of the edition they have purchased. While beta codes come with a pre-order of any edition on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, those also looking to gain early access to the full game will have to buy either the Premium or Kollector’s Edition.

Unfortunately, the Mortal Kombat 1 beta is a console exclusive experience. However, Nintendo Switch players won’t be able to try it out, joining fans playing on the PC version. This means that, as it stands, PC players and Nintendo Switch players will have to wait until the early access period to try out the reboot for the first time.

Keep in mind that players who participated in the Mortal Kombat 1 Online Stress Test won’t have automatically granted access to the beta.

Mortal Kombat 1 beta start date

The Mortal Kombat 1 beta will begin on Friday, August 18, 2023, and run through August 21, 2023. Keep in mind that while digital codes will be redeemable beforehand, and the beta version of the game will be downloadable prior to the beta, players won’t have access until the start date.

Mortal Kombat official account confirmed that fighters Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kenshi, Kitana, Johnny Cage, and Li Mei will be available to try during the beta, and also confirmed Kameos as Kano, Sonya, Jax, and Frost. Regarding stages, Mortal Kombat 1’s beta will feature The Teahouse and Johnny Cage’s Mansion for players to try out.

NetherRealm Studios also confirmed that the Mortal Kombat beta will support one-versus-one online multiplayer, as well as single-player Klassic Towers mode against A.I. opponents.
