Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality straight out of Kill Bill has players desperate for The Bride to arrive
Miramax FilmsThe Mortal Kombat franchise is synonymous with awesome yet brutal Fatalities that reduce characters to a pile of mulch, and Mortal Kombat 1 proudly carries on that tradition. One of the game’s Fatalities even takes inspiration from the action classic Kill Bill: Volume 2.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19, and players are already taking a glimpse at its reimagined universe through the game’s early access period. The latest entry in the long-running franchise brings along an expansive list of characters, a brand-new campaign, Kameo fighters, and more.
Mortal Kombat 1 also features a sizable list of new Fatalities paired with some callbacks to prior games. One of its new inclusions takes inspiration from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 2. The discovery was made by many players online before eventually being confirmed by series co-creator Ed Boon.
Boon took to X (formerly Twitter) to reshare a clip comparing Shujinko’s Fatality to an iconic scene from the film. The Fatality in question sees Shunjiko perform a series of precise maneuvers, very reminiscent of the ‘Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique.’
When placed side by side the similarities become pretty apparent. From the facial expressions to the points of impact, there’s plenty of attention to detail. The camera even zeroes in on Shujinko’s gaze before the final blow, just like it did on Uma Thurman in the movie.
There are differences of course as the technique receives a Mortal Kombat makeover. Instead of triumphant horns and final words, the Fatality ends with the opponent’s heart quite literally exploding into a gory mess.
Fans were left amazed by the reference, and some even called for The Bride to become a playable character via a future DLC. One user commented, “The Bride (Beatrix Kiddo) would make an excellent collection to the Mk1 roster.” Another said, “We need her to MK1.”
With Mortal Kombat 1 nearing its full release, expect to see even more easter eggs found by the community.
