Mortal Kombat 1: How to get Johnny Cage’s Hype Meter up

Mortal Kombat 1 is the first game in the series to introduce a special feature known as the Hype Meter, which can boost players’ damage output by 50% during combo moves. Here’s how you can increase Johnny Cage’s Hype Meter in Mortal Kombat 1.

Mortal Kombat 1 has brought a lot of changes to some of the well-known fighters in the series. This new time, shaped by Liu Kang, has changed Johnny Cage’s ability to call upon magic, but he now has great combo moves and his own Hype Meter.

If you didn’t know before, Johnny Cage is a star of action movies who knows martial arts, and the new Hype Meter, which is inspired by his lore, asks players to make Johnny’s personality shine in order to unlock special moves.

Mortal Kombat 1: Johnny Cage’s Hype Meter explained

When playing Mortal Kombat 1, you’ll notice that Johnny Cage has an extra meter shaped like a star in the bottom corner of the screen, which is called Hype Meter and to fill it up, you’ll have to perform Taunts (which have to be finished without getting interrupted) and other special movements, like holding poses.

Once you fill the Hype Meter, you should perform the Hype Special Move. This will get Johnny Cage under a spotlight, and he’ll be able to get special combos with augmented speed and the unique ability to cancel Special Moves from his opponents.

This will also give him the ability to use a Special Move (or EX move) without burning an Energy Bar, which means that once per combo, he’ll be able to perform a free Special Move.
