Mortal Kombat 1 features many returning characters, but players are already thinking about what’s coming next. Leaks suggest more returning fighters are on the way alongside a horror icon and more.

Mortal Kombat 1 is finally here, and longtime fans are already enjoying the latest installment in the franchise thanks to the early access period. The day one patch is also here, and the game data seems to hide hints about characters that could be coming to the fighting game in the future.

Players already know all six characters coming with the first Kombat Pack DLC, including characters from franchises like Invincible and The Boys. However, dataminers have found dialogue that hints at even more popular characters from different properties alongside more returning Mortal Kombat fighters.

A dataminer found interesting evidence of a Story Mode expansion that will help introduce rumored characters like Noob Saibot and Cyrax. On the other hand, different lines of dialogue between characters also seem to hint at other interesting additions, like Conan the Barbarian and Ghostface from Scream.

MK1 leak suggests Story Mode expansion is on the way

According to leaker TheThiny, Mortal Kombat 1’s campaign will receive additional chapters centered around Sub-Zero, the Lin Kuei, and the infamous Cyber Initiative. In Mortal Kombat’s lore, Sub-Zero, also known as Bi-Han, dies and is reborn as Noob Saibot. Different lines of dialogue hint at this being part of the new story that also involves robots Cyrax and Sektor in some capacity.

Leaks also suggest a female character will be key to this campaign expansion. Since the plot seems to revolve around the Lin Kuei, fans think it could be Frost, but some dialogues could also be hinting at Sareena or possibly a completely new character.

Since the game has only just arrived, and players have a lot of content to explore until the DLC is fully released, we might have to wait for official confirmation on all of this.

However, a Story Mode expansion isn’t far-fetched at all. Mortal Kombat 11 had a DLC that added Fujin, Night Wolf, and Shang Tsung to the main story with additional chapters that gave players a whole new ending for the game.

MK1 Kombat Pack 2 DLC could feature Ghostface, Conan & more

TheThiny also suggested that characters like Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, Kung Jin, and Jade could arrive in Mortal Kombat 1 in the future.

Conan has been rumored for quite some time, and datamined dialogues hint at a muscular fighter with a big sword. Although it could also be He-Man or a revamped Kotal Kahn, this would mark the second time an Arnold Schwarzenegger character makes its way into the fighting franchise.

Other dialogues seem to hint at the T-1000 villain from Terminator 2, portrayed by Robert Patrick. Specifically, TheThiny found a Peacemaker line that says “You look just like my dad!” which could be a direct reference to the DC Comics TV show where Robert Patrick plays that role.

After Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Alien, and Predator made appearances in Mortal Kombat, it seems like Ghostface from Scream is next. Different dialogues hint at a character with a mask, a dark cloak, and a knife, with a line even mentioning movies, a subject at the center of every Scream installment.

The first Kombat Pack will add six characters.

Other upcoming characters could include fan-favorite Jade and young fighters Cassie Cage and Kung Jin. Takeda, Kenshi’s son, is already confirmed in the first Kombat Pack, so adding Cassie Cage and Kung Jin could be possible. As for Jade, it’s just one of the many requested characters alongside Sonya Blade and Jax, who are now merely Kameo Fighters.

Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed, so we recommend you take it with a pinch of salt. However, since 2011’s Mortal Kombat 9, players have received many special crossovers and great surprises in the Mortal Kombat cast, so we’ll keep an eye out for the latest news regarding upcoming fighters and DLC.
