Mortal Kombat 1 players aren’t happy with the state of the game, and new Halloween-themed content wasn’t well received by the community. Many expressed their disappointment and asked NetherRealm to reconsider locking content behind a paywall.

Mortal Kombat 1 launched the franchise into a new generation with many returning characters, gruesome Fatalities, and a new single-player mode, alongside many features. While players enjoyed the rebooted plot, new mechanics, and refreshed vibes of the latest entry, they also had many complaints since its release.

Most players’ concerns involve the monetization strategy for a game that cost some fans $100. The latest issue that’s making some players abandon MK1 is a new Halloween-themed Fatality that you can only access through the game’s premium store.

User A_Pyroshark took the discussion to Reddit with a meme, remarking that they spent $110 on Mortal Kombat 1, and they still have to pay for the extra Fatality.

This kind of complaint isn’t new in the Mortal Kombat community, as many players believe that NetherRealm Studios’ only goal is to squeeze out money from players: “I really love this game, but having overpriced cosmetics on a full priced game is complete bulls**t,” commented one user.

The Mortal Kombat subreddit is full of players asking for balance changes and revamped cosmetic systems. However, the developers seem to be focused on the upcoming DLC fighters, and the community doesn’t feel they’re listening at all.

“I knew when they dropped the Amazon Prime DLC trailer before they even released the game that we were getting taken for a ride. It feels like they just want to rake in as much money as they can with this game and then leave it like they did 11,” stated another Redditor.

Another complaint stems from a lack of communication from NetherRealm Studios. Players only found out about the Halloween Fatality through the latest patch notes that said it was added to the Premium Store.

Fans couldn’t find it in the game and asked the WB Games Support account about it. Only then was it revealed that the Halloween Fatality will arrive on October 27.

What’s more, another user called the developers out for alleged false advertising: “they literally said on stream that everything will be unlockable in-game, no microtransaction bs and yet now here we are.” This long chain of disappointments, which include a lackluster Invasion Mode, made many players consider leaving the game until it gets better.

“I’ll see y’all in five years when either all them cosmetics become earnable in the Final Ultimate Edition, or at least the base game starts selling for dirt cheap,” another user commented. Those who played the latest entries in the franchise know that NetherRealm don’t provide much support after releasing all the content they have planned, so they don’t expect things to change with Mortal Kombat 1.
