Naughty Dog’s next game set to be a new IP with a fantasy setting
Unexpectedly, Naughty Dog’s next game may not be a new Uncharted or even a sequel to The Last of Us Part II. A Senior Concept Artist for Naughty Dog has hinted at a new IP entirely.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the next direction for Naughty Dog may not be a familiar one. It’s not out of the question for them to explore new avenues as they generally don’t like to stay on the same franchise for too long.
Given how TLOU2 ended, it seemed a foregone conclusion that a third game would be next. However, some concept art would indicate that a new IP could be in the works.
New Naughty Dog Fantasy IP
The revelation arises from a post on Naughty Dog Senior Concept Artist Hyoung Nam’s ArtStation account. The platform is used to create exposure for artists to showcase their portfolio of work.
Hyoung posted three amazing pieces of artwork, but also paired them with an interesting caption, “Inspire from new game. You know what I’m talking about…”.
The three images are well-detailed and their theme is noticeably unlike anything that Naughty Dog has done previously. They’ve either made cartoony games in the form of Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter, or mature games like Uncharted & The Last of Us.
Naughty Dog love new challenges and exploring a fantasy setting across a kingdom is certainly not beyond them. Following in the steps of The Witcher 3, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones, Naughty Dog would thrive on the opportunity to make something incredible like this.
It’s a very interesting message that can be interpreted in several ways. On one hand, especially in the modern age, hints and easter eggs are always a fantastic way to drum up speculation and get people talking.
On the other hand, you have to question if this is the way they want to unofficially let people know about their new game?
As is to be expected, this information is purely speculation and rumor at this point.
