New Battlefield 6 details reportedly leaked: “reboot” of franchise, 128-player matches, more
A new leak has suggested that Battlefield 6 is going to be a soft reboot and abandon the World War theme of the last two games. It will return to the present day and feature large-scale, 128-player battles on current-gen.
We’ve known for some time that Battlefield 6 is in the pipeline at EA as they look to continue the success of their long-running FPS franchise. Some details have finally emerged thanks to leaks from established sources.
It seems that Battlefield has spent enough time retreading old ground with World War 1 & 2. Instead, the series wants to fast-forward to the modern-day and create some visually stimulating conflict.
Battlefield 6 current-gen vs last-gen
It was back in 2020 that noteworthy game leaker Tom Henderson gained some insider knowledge and proclaiming that BF6 will have 128-player skirmishes.
The CEO of production company Viral Junkie had suggested the maps were being specifically designed around this exorbitantly high player count. These claims have been reassured, but now we have additional information too.
EA has been waiting before delivering anything official as they are essentially delivering a BF6 experience for our new current-gen and last-gen. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will be able to show off their awesome power by handling huge amounts of players at once.
It’s unclear whether the PS4 and Xbox One will be able to offer as impressive performance given that we’ve already seen these problems recently with Cyberpunk 2077’s different gen offerings.
Henderson has indicated that the last-gen versions may be stripped down to 64-player matches to ease the pressure on the less-developed consoles.
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale?
Now the interesting thing to note is that Battlefield 5 debuted its first kind of Battle Royale mode with “Firestorm”. It featured 64 players who sought to whittle this number down until only one person was left standing.
Tom Henderson has indicated that EA is still working on the idea of a Battle Royale mode. Given that Call of Duty made over $3 billion in 2020 with a lot of the revenue coming from the 85+ million players indulging in Warzone’s cosmetics and Battle Pass, it would make sense for EA to follow suit.
With player counts reaching as high as 128, it would surely be easy enough for Battlefield to accommodate such a mode. If it’s not released at launch, then there’s always the probability of EA adding it down the line as Modern Warfare did with Warzone.
Battlefield Reboot
Finally, after joining the FPS renaissance back in the early 2010s, Battlefield went old-school for their last two major titles. Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5 explored the age-old period of the World Wars.
But now it seems that EA is ready to step into the future once more.
The game is set to feature a minor reboot by modernizing its inevitably intense action and deliver some current-day mayhem. There is no word yet on what the game’s campaign could have lined up, nor is there any confirmation on Battlefield 6 having one at all.
These exciting details are all unofficial of course and as such should be taken with a pinch of salt for the time being.
