New Details on Black Ops Declassified for PS Vita

Published

on

Nihilistic Software’s Studio Head Robert Huebner sat down with the official PlayStation team to get a QA on what to expect for Black Ops Declassified – the new Call of Duty game exclusively for the PS Vita.

Here’s the QA:

PlayStation.Blog: How is the game progressing since we last saw it at Gamescom?

  • Robert Huebner, Studio Head, Nihilistic: Gamescom seems so long ago. I think the most noticeable thing is a significant visual upgrade; a richer color palette, more detailed models, and better lighting overall. Also we implemented an entirely new animation blending system that allows us to capture a lot of nuanced animation that Call of Duty players are accustomed to.

PSB: What do you consider to be the most crucial elements to nail when adapting Call of Duty to PS Vita?

  • RH: Two things really come to mind. The feel of the controls and weapons is a top priority, because that’s a lot of what makes Call of Duty work so well on other platforms. We got a lot of great insight and advice from the franchise veterans on this, but also adapted things for the specific controls on the PS Vita.
  • The second thing probably were animations. You don’t notice it all the time while you’re playing, but when you drill down, Call of Duty has an insane number of animations for each enemy and every little transition and move feels really accurate and intelligent. So we invested a lot of time in trying to capture that same feeling in Declassified.

PSB: Tell us about these new maps you’ve revealed, Nukehouse and Range. Nukehouse clearly seems inspired by the fan-favorite map Nuketown.

  • RH: Yeah, Nuketown is obviously a fan favorite so we wanted to really do an homage to that map. Nukehouse is a tighter level overall but tries to capture the unique look and feel of the original.
See the rest of the QA after the break!

PSB: Here’s a question fans have been wondering about: How deep will the weapon modding system be?

  • RH: Weapons retain many of the attachments from previous games, with fan favorites such as suppressors, extended mags, underaction grenade launchers, and different optics. New additions also appear like improved grip, which improves hip fire accuracy, and adjustable stock, which gives full movement speed while using Aim Down the Sight.
  • In multiplayer, you’ll unlock these attachments by leveling up your weapons. You’ll be able to use up to two attachments with each primary weapon, and one attachment with secondary weapons.

PSB: How many Perks will be in the game, and what will they be? Anything new?

  • RH: There are a total of 12 Perks in Black Ops Declassified, with a mix of returning and new abilities. Hardline, Marksman, Sleight of Hand, and Lightweight are all back, but new perks like Surplus (extra starting ammo and grenades), Hardwired (immune to Counter Spy Plane) and Toughness (reduced flinching when shot) are also important to remember when creating classes.

PSB: Will there be different grenade types, and will any use PS Vita’s touchscreen in interesting ways?

  • RH: Definitely. We’re trying to bring back the most popular grenade and tactical weapons that fit the time period of our story, and there’s a lot of variety. The Bouncing Betty is one of the most popular around the office for multiplayer; there’s something very satisfying about getting a kill with one. And flash-bangs are also fun, the reaction of your opponents over Party voice chat is always entertaining. The front touchscreen is used to toss grenades as well as optionally to aim your throw.

PSB: What kinds of missions are planned for single-player?

  • RH: The single-player campaign consists of intense and replayable objective-based missions that allow you to get better and better over time to improve your performance. The goal is to give the player the experience of striving for the “perfect run” through each mission.

PSB: There are Survival missions in the game as well — what can you share?

  • RH: These “Hostiles” missions as we call them now are the classic “survive infinite waves” sort of challenge. The player has to survive wave after wave of different enemy types, but also receives “care package” drops during play to keep them supplied.

Now that we have finally entered the festive season of the year, Apex Legends players are looking forward to the Christmas event, known as Holo-day Bash. Here are all the details on Season 11’s rendition of the event.

Apex Legends has had a lot of content in Season 11, most notably the new Legend Ash and map Storm Point.

This new content hasn’t stopped players from getting excited about the in-season events. Just recently we received new information surrounding the Season 11 Collection Event, but what about Christmas?

Apex Legends Holo-day Bash

Every year Respawn Entertainment hosts its own Christmas event in Apex Legends called Holo-day Bash. The event usually brings new skins and a fan-favorite LTM called Winter Express.

The Season 11 Holo-day Bash event is set to bring something similar. However, Season 11’s Christmas event will be slightly different, as we will be seeing both Season 11’s Collection Event and the Holo-day Bash event combined into one.

When is the Apex Legends Holo-day Bash event?

Unfortunately, for those who were looking forward to seeing a purely Christmas-themed event, players will be getting something very different.

This year, Respawn has decided to combine the Raiders Collection Event with aspects of the Holo-day Bash event. So, the festivities will be launched in Apex at the same time as the launch of the Season 11 Collection Event.

The update will therefore be available December 7, around 10 AM PST / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST. The event will end on December 21, so make sure you log in during this period to experience the Apex festivities!

Winter Express LTM

With the Raiders Collection event reveal, players learned that the Winter Express LTM would be returning. This is a round-based, limited-time mode that sees players battle it out for control of the World’s Edge train as it stops at various POIs.

Winter Express has returned every Holo-day Bash event, so it’s great to see it once again, even if there isn’t a fully-fledged Holo-day Bash event.

Festive skins

As we are getting the Raiders Collection Event, we don’t expect to see any Holo-day Bash event skins.

There hasn’t been any official announcement from Respawn, but there is potential for some of the Christmas skins to be sold. We’ll update this piece with more information as it comes out.

That’s all for the Apex Legends Season 11 Holo-day Bash event. For now, check out our piece on Apex Legends’ third Anniversary.

Vanguard Season 1 maps

With Vanguard Season 1 right around the corner, more news has surfaced including the arrival of two new maps.

December 8 is fast approaching and Vanguard players just received an enormous amount of information regarding Season 1. The devs confirmed the introduction of two free weapons, a new Operator, Multiplayer modes, and most importantly two maps.

The bevy of new content is sure to excite Vanguard players everywhere. However, the one piece of information that is generating the most excitement is the inclusion of a yet to be revealed fan-favorite map

Which maps are coming to Vanguard Season 1?

Vanguard Season 1 content road map

Vanguard launched with a whopping 16 Multiplayer maps and 4 Champion Hill maps for a total of 20 maps. Considering Sledgehammer spoiled Vanguard players with several maps at launch, some may be surprised to see we’re getting two new maps so soon.

Ultimately, receiving new maps is a great thing for the Vanguard community. It helps keep the Multiplayer experience feeling fresh. The Call of Duty devs promised that one of the two new maps is “a Pacific-inspired take on a fan-favorite classic Call of Duty map.”

This statement has led many to speculate which map is going to make a return. The quote is leading players to believe that an iconic map is going to get a Pacific-themed revamp, much like Vanguard’s iteration of Shipment.

Vanguard players are already beginning to imagine what their favorite map would look like in Vanguard. The most popular guesses seem to be Terminal, Rust, Nuketown, and Shoot House. Considering how highly regarded each of these maps are, Vanguard players would be lucky to receive even one of them.

When more details involving the two maps are revealed, check back in for an update. In the meantime, CharlieINTEL has got you covered for Season 1’s December 8 launch.

Vanguard leaks suggest Infected & other game modes coming soon

Vanguard dataminers have uncovered a variety of game modes in the files, with one of them being fan-favorite mode Infected.

modern warfare infected coming to vanguard

A list of unreleased Vanguard game modes has been leaked by a Call of Duty dataminer, suggesting modes like Infected could be returning to the franchise.

Call of Duty: Vanguard has been a great success for the franchise since its release, with players happy about the variety of maps, weapons, and game modes.

With Vanguard on the verge of its first season and integration with Warzone, dataminers have been uncovering details about the Multiplayer. The most recent leaks have uncovered a variety of game modes that players could be seen in the game soon.

For those that don’t know, Vanguard was created using the Modern Warfare (2019)’s engine. Many have enjoyed this aspect of Vanguard, especially as its integration with Warzone should be much smoother, as it also uses the same engine.

What dataminers have found is that a lot of Modern Warfare’s content is still within the game’s files.

This isn’t anything profound or official, but it does possibly mean that we could be seeing some of that content in Vanguard.

Vanguard Infected leaks

Call of Duty dataminer sebas4412 recently revealed some of this Modern Warfare content and actually managed to get it working within Vanguard. In a tweet made on November 29, they said “lol like almost every MW mode has functionality in Vanguard, just got infected working.”

It is interesting that they were able to get Infected working, as some of the other modes found like “Tanks” and “Skulls” were unplayable. Could this potentially mean we will be seeing Infected within Vanguard’s future?

As players will know, Black Ops Cold War also had the Infected mode, but this wasn’t released until a little while after its launch.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but we’re sure there will be new game modes coming to Vanguard in the future, and perhaps these leaks are a hint as to what we may see.
