New patch for Black Ops 3 (v. 1.09) now live on PS4, includes bug fixes and more

A new patch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is now live on PlayStation 4. The version number is 1.09, and the update is around 1.07GB.

This update brings support for Eclipse DLC Pack 2, bug fixes, and more. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Eclipse DLC Pack 2 will be available to play starting at 12AM Pacific Time, April 19 on PlayStation 4. Unlike Awakening DLC, Eclipse DLC is a separate download from this patch update.

Eclipse DLC 2 Map Pack Support

  • Spire: Spire takes Multiplayer combat to a futuristic sub-orbital airport terminal set high in the clouds. Multiple levels and open areas promote intense, mid-range combat around a clean, high-tech civilian environment. Watch your step, because one wrong move could send you plummeting back through the stratosphere.
  • Rift: Head to the core of a harsh futuristic military complex, set high above an active caldera. Rift funnels and forces tight, intense engagements, where the only way through is forward. Utilize the unique core movement opportunities to outsmart and outplay enemies as you traverse the suspended rail system.
  • Knockout: Housed in a traditional Shaolin Temple with a retro twist, Knockout sets the stage for a bloody Kung Fu tournament. This mid-sized map showcases a sharp contrast between the mid-range engagements of the traditional exterior architecture and the tight close-quarters of an eclectic 1970’s styled interior.
  • Verge: In this re-imagination of the classic Call of Duty: World at War map, Banzai, Verge drops Multiplayer combat into the center of a distant post-apocalyptic future, where two warring factions are entrenched in constant battle. Take control of the key bridge, fortresses, tunnel systems and waterfalls as you engage in high-speed action through this medium-sized map.
  • Zetsubou No Shima: Eclipse also sets the stage for Zetsubou No Shima, the highly-anticipated, all-new entry in theCall of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies storyline that spans the four DLC Map Packs for Black Ops III this year. The Originscharacters continue on their mission to stop the zombie apocalypse not only in this universe but in all universes. Our heroes find themselves stranded on a remote Pacific island which is home to the Division 9 facility: a secret biological research lab whose experiments with Element 115 and its effects on human, animal, and plant biology has created horrors beyond belief. Zetsubou No Shima features a foliage rich island map including new terrifying zombie enemies, a variety of innovative transport mechanics, more devastating traps and classic Zombies side quests.

MULTIPLAYER:

General

  • Arena Season Vet Vanquisher Calling Cards should now properly unlock after meeting the required win total.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Rank 1” Calling Card was being awarded again in the After-Action Report after winning an Arena match, despite the user already having the card.
  • Earned Prestige Calling Cards now properly display within the Calling Cards menu.

General Gameplay

  • Resolved issue where grey boxes were appearing in place of the NX ShadowClaw.
  • Addressed exploit where Players were able to gain extra momentum at end of a slide.
  • Added pre-match “Waiting for Players” message when Pre-Match settings are altered in Custom Games.
  • Fixed issue where the HG 40 would appear as a large grey box if Players first entered a Zombies or Campaign game, and then went into Multiplayer.
  • NX Shadowclaw bolts will no longer remain on the map if the Player is killed by explosive-based Scorestreaks.
  • Players will no longer hear the whiz-by sound effect for NX Shadowclaw bolts throughout the map. This will only occur for Players near the bolt.
  • Time window to obtain “Tag and Bag” Medals has been extended, and the Medals are now properly rewarded at the end of the Vision Pulse range.
  • Fixed an error where double Winner’s Circles would appear if the top-scoring Player would quit the match just after the Host ended the game.
  • Fixed issues with the BlackCell projectile not properly impacting UAV’s.
  • Repeatable reload sounds are no longer heard when the NX Shadowclaw bolts hit surfaces near enemy Players.
  • Resolved an issue where spawn trap logic was not being enabled in 2nd and 4th rounds of gameplay.
  • Additional improvements to bot path selection and correction when becoming stuck.
  • Fixed an issue where certain weapons could be fired faster than their intended fire rate.

  • Fixed issue where the wrong portrait image was appearing for Battery’s MMA Specialist Theme.
  • Fixed an exploit where Players were able to obtain more Cryptokeys than intended by manipulating game lobbies.

Shadows of Evil

  • Addressed an issue where players would rarely be killed while riding the train.

  • Balance improvements for the Kreegakaleet lu Gosata’ahm and Kreeaho’ahm nal Ahmhogaroc bows.
  • Addressed a number of exploits that allow extended use of the Ragnarok DG-4.
  • Resolved a bug where the Ragnarok DG-4 would be put away before expiration.
  • Addressed a variety of exploits where Players were able to exit the playable area.
  • Fixed an issue where skulls would not appear after being collected during the bow upgrade quest.

DOA II

  • Fixed bug where COA’d enemy could persist past round exit and possibly kill player while screen was faded out.
  • Fixed bug where scoreboard on subsequent Redins Rally play through was not completely cleared out.
  • Increased weighting for karma points to determine winner in ROJ event.
  • Fixed bug where a player in last stand could pick items up.
  • Fixed bug where score multiplier got out of sync with multiplier increment bar on players fated with Fortune or Fortitude.

CoD community split as players reveal the worst ever Call of Duty game

Call of Duty players were asked to reveal which game they believe to be the franchise’s worst and the results were far from unanimous.

CoD fans usually have passionate opinions when it comes to debating the franchise’s best game, but the same could be said when the community was asked to reveal the worst Call of Duty game ever.

As Vanguard’s cycle slowly comes to a close with Season 5 on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to indulge in some nostalgia and look back through the years of the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty has been around for so long that most players will have significantly different answers when asked what their favorite or least favorite CoD game is.

This was exactly the case as the CharlieIntel Twitter account asked players from the Call of Duty community to reveal their first played, most recent, best, and worst Call of Duty title of all time.

While the replies revealed that most players view Black Ops 2 or Black Ops 3 as the best Call of Duty game ever made, the same cannot be said for their opinion of the franchise’s worst game.

The replies for the “Worst Call of Duty” section were varied but a trend did begin to appear after a couple thousand responses. It seems most players opted for Vanguard as the worst game the franchise has put forth.

There’s no doubt that some recency bias likely impacted these results, but Vanguard has been one of the most hated Call of Duty games ever made. Despite being fresh in peoples’ minds, the game has come under fire for being a mess since it was released.

Vanguard seemed to be the most popular answer, but it failed to grasp a majority vote as players consistently spread their answers between a few titles. 2019’s Modern Warfare was another popular choice.

The game is notably polarizing as most either loved it or hated it. Some players sunk countless hours into the game as its multiplayer kept CoD fans busy throughout the pandemic. Meanwhile, competitive players and content creators shared a disdain for the game’s core mechanics.

Aside from Modern Warfare 2019, and Vanguard, Call of Duty: Ghosts, WWII, and Infinite Warfare were also quite popular responses. With WWII and Vanguard being two boots-on-the-ground WWII-era CoD games, it seems players don’t take kindly to this style and setting.

Only time will tell if the highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 will have a strong enough impact on players to eventually become a valid answer for this CoD questionnaire. Of course, Infinity Ward will be hoping it improves on its predecessor and makes its way to the “Best” side of the debate.

Microsoft explain why Call of Duty will stay on PlayStation after Xbox exclusivity rumors

Microsoft have reiterated their claim that Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation and gave one simple reason why.

Both PlayStations fans and Sony itself have expressed concern over Call of Duty becoming Xbox and PC exclusive, but Microsoft have reiterated their claim that the games will remain on PlayStation, giving one simple reason why.

Microsoft announced their shock buyout of Activision Blizzard back in January 2022, with the deal set to close in Summer 2023. While Microsoft previously stated that there are no plans to make Call of Duty Xbox and PC-exclusive, Sony still expressed concern.

As reported by VGC, Microsoft responded to these concerns in a document sent to Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE). Here, they accused Sony of blocking games from Xbox Game Pass and reiterated that it “wouldn’t be profitable” to remove Call of Duty from PlayStation.

Microsoft acquired Bethesda back in 2021, and have already started making their games, such as Starfield, Xbox and PC exclusive. However, in this document, Microsoft insisted that Sony shouldn’t worry about Call of Duty being removed from PlayStation.

Modern Warfare 2 Ghost

“Regardless of how unsurprising Sony‘s criticism of content exclusivity is – given that PlayStation’s entire strategy has been centered on exclusivity over the years – the reality is that the strategy of retaining Activision Blizzard’s games by not distributing them in rival console shops would simply not be profitable for Microsoft,” claimed Microsoft.

Microsoft gave several reasons why they wouldn’t remove future Call of Duty games from PlayStation, but it all boiled down to profit.

“The hypothetical adoption of any content discontinuation strategy would not be profitable for Microsoft and, even if implemented, such strategies would have no competitive impact, for the reasons described above,” concluded Microsoft.

There are also reports that there are contractual agreements that ensure the next three Call of Duty games will be on both Xbox and PlayStation. Rumors suggest that Call of Duty 2024 will be developed by Treyarch, and Activision have even teased a new premium game for 2023.

Huge Black Ops 4 campaign leak reveals scrapped ‘Career’ mode details & concept art

Black Ops 4’s scrapped campaign has reportedly appeared online in a huge leak showing off concept art and breaking down a ton of details.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 went against the norm by opting to skip a campaign, despite it reportedly being in development for some time. Four years later, a leak puts together a ton of information about the scrapped ‘Career’ mode which was set to be an online 2v2 experience.

While Call of Duty players typically enjoy the blockbuster campaigns, it’s arguably multiplayer that brings them back year after year. Despite rumors suggesting that a Black Ops 4 Campaign was in development, the game launched in 2018 without a single-player mode.

Now, almost four years later with Modern Warfare 2 on the horizon, a ton of info has dropped detailing exactly what Black Ops 4’s campaign mode could have been.

Reddit user Purpletoaster20 said this huge post in the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit was the result of “months of research & discussion with people who have inside knowledge of this mode,” and it includes images of internal powerpoints, concept art, and a detailed breakdown of each mission.

Black Ops 4 operators

The campaign was dubbed ‘Career’ and would be an online 2v2 mode where players would “race to the finish” against the opposing duo, and whichever side won would affect how the rest of the session would progress.

Taking place in a post-Black Ops 3 2070, there would be “The Year of Chaos” after a pandemic and climate disasters would “heavily diminish the world’s resources.”

Each duo would pick their preferred faction, and then need to battle against AI to complete their objectives ahead of the other team. Plus, there would also be PvP sections with Blackout mechanics, where death would result in respawning back at a base near to the action.

This mode would have counted towards player progression, with each Black Ops 4 season adding several new missions for players to complete.

Four missions were “nearly complete,” and the Reddit user detailed them all in the Reddit post. In these missions, players had to complete Call of Duty-esque objectives such as blowing up convoys and hacking and defending terminals.

But why was this huge mode canceled? According to the Reddit user, it was “due to technical issues & the overall gameplay loop being described as too repetitive,” as well as the release being pushed forward by a month. They also claim that the leaked gameplay wasn’t from the campaign, but was actually from a Specialist HQ mode.

The Reddit user said they’ll be putting all of this information together in a 30-minute video on August 18.
