Call of Duty: Ghosts at Eurogamer Expo 2013

Peter

Eurogamer Expo has taken over London this week, and we had plenty of hands-on with Call of Duty: Ghosts – as you’d expect.

Eurogamer Expo is the second event within Europe which gave the first 500 people who play Ghosts the opportunity to get hold of Call of Duty: Ghosts Prestige Edition for free. As you’d imagine, this attracted a huge crowd of people with some queuing outside the building since the night before.

When the doors finally opened, thousands flocked to the Call of Duty: Ghosts booth all day long, from 10am to 7pm. Whilst the queues were long and many waited for quite a while,  you could overhear the excitement for the game as players left the booth – many walked out with some Ghosts swag too!

In terms of the game modes and weapons on offer, it was the same build as we saw at Gamescom including the recently introduced ‘Blitz’ mode. It was however the first experience many people had of Ghosts in the UK so there was more than enough to experience. Players were able to try out Blitz, Cranked, Domination and Team Deathmatch in a 6v6 arrangement using an Xbox One controller, or keyboard and mouse for those who preferred.

Gameplay wise, Ghosts is definitely more fast-paced in comparison to previous titles, and some modes rely heavily on teamwork. Modes such as Blitz require teams to defend and approach locations on the map – you just need to run to the enemies portal to score a point for your team.

Sounds easy right? Not always, and the majority of games we played and saw were very close. Cheers and banter could be heard all around as players tried out the different modes.

5 classes and numerous weapons were on offer with limited attachments and perks, but again for a fairly short session it gave people more than enough to experience.

It was also the first event to showcase the contents of the Prestige Edition which was on display for everyone to see, including the 1080p camera. We weren’t able to try it out, but we did get some close-ups of the camera itself and the accessories included. The camera is surprisingly light, so much so that you’d probably forget you’re wearing it for extensive periods.

Other accessories on show included shirts, hats, bracelets, strategy guide, Ghosts branded Turtle Beach headsets and more.

Once players had finished playing Ghosts and had a look around, they had the opportunity of having their face as the character as seen on the Call of Duty: Ghosts boxart – there was plenty of Monster Energy drink to go around too.

Overall there was plenty of excitement for Call of Duty: Ghosts, with long and consistent queues and players wanting to play again and again – us included. We had a great time at Eurogamer and can’t wait for the next event!
