How to play Call of Duty on your iOS device with PS4 Remote Play
PS4 System Update 6.50 adds this amazing new feature.
On March 7, a new System Software Update was released for the Playstation 4 allowing Remote Play on iOS Devices. After updating their systems, players can access their PS4’s from the “PS4 Remote Play” app in the App Store.
Remote Play has been a major feature since the PS4’s announcement back in 2013, originally allowing you to stream and control your console from the Playstation Vita. Since then, Remote Play has made its way to Mac, Windows, and even Sony Xperia phones, however this is the first time it’s coming to Apple devices.
Here’s how you set up PS4 Remote Play on iOS:
- Download the “PS4 Remote Play” app on your mobile device. iOS 12.1 or later is required.
- In PS4 Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings, turn on Enable Remote Play
- Sign in using your PSN on the Remote Play app and hit Start.
- This will connect you to whichever PS4 console is your Primary system. If you wish to connect to a different PS4, go to Settings in the iOS app, and tap “Change PS4 to Connect To”
- Make sure the Console and Mobile Device are connected to the same internet and follow on screen instructions to register your device.
That’s it! Once you’re connected, a virtual controller will display on your screen giving you full access to every button on the Dualshock 4. While this layout is not the best as it makes reaching certain buttons a little clunky, the app supports 3rd party MFI Controllers to give you more control.
In my personal experience, I found the lag in menus to be barely noticeable, however trying to fend off in Multiplayer matches had me at a significant disadvantage.
While I don’t think this is a replacement for actually playing on your console, this is a great way to check Daily Callings or the Black Market in Black Ops 4 without having to turn the TV on.
