NICKMERCS claims Warzone will die without an Apex Legends-like ranked mode

Warzone is one of the most popular titles in all of gaming, but Nick ‘NICKMERCS’ Kolcheff believes the battle royale is in serious danger if it doesn’t add a ranked mode like Apex Legends.

With Season 6 underway and Vanguard integration on the horizon, there’s a lot to be excited about for Warzone fans.

However, streaming star NICKMERCS, who infamously jumped ship from Warzone to Apex Legends, believes that the CoD battle royale will have no long-term future unless it implements one specific feature.

He feels that without any real ranked mode, Warzone “can’t survive” in the way that the likes of Apex and Fortnite have.

In a recent upload to his YouTube channel, NICKMERCS was discussing how a ranked mode has taken Apex Legends to the next level.

“That’s why Apex got some traction,” he said. “If it wasn’t for ranked mode, I don’t think Apex would even be that crazy.”

The new Iron Trials mode did give fans a glimpse at how a Warzone ranked mode would look, but it still to appears to be a temporary addition to the playlist.

The streamer argued that solid ranked competition can elevate a game and help it stay popular for longer. “If you want to have a game stay around for a minute, that’s all you really need – a good ranked mode.”

Warzone fans have been calling for the introduction of a ranked mode for some time, and Nick believes that if it does, the CoD battle royale will take off in an even bigger way.

He also feels that devs should look to similar games, even as far back as Halo 2 for the right way to do ranked play.

“Halo 2 was arguably the greatest ranked system ever made,” he argued. “It’s not very hard. When you lose, you have to lose rank points, and when you win you gain rank points.”

“The blueprint is there, you’ve just got to follow it. You can put your own twist on things, but just follow the yellow brick road and you’re fine.”

Call of Duty: Vanguard is right around the corner, and there is still no word on whether or not its release will see a ranked mode added to Warzone.
