NICKMERCS explains why Fortnite is the most competitive shooter

Warzone content creator NICKMERCS explains why he thinks Fortnite is the most competitive shooter in the industry.

Fortnite is the battle royale game that started the craze, and although it doesn’t feel like it was that long ago, the game was released four years ago.

Now, in 2021, there are many battle royales and other shooter games to choose from, but which ones are the most competitive?

Most battle royale games have a competitive league in which the best players compete for prizes. Just recently, Apex Legends’ announced their huge prize pool of up to $3 million in the ALGS Championship on June 12.

Games like Warzone, Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Valorant, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive all have mechanics and features players must master to be at the top of each game’s competitive scene.

Apex Legends and Valorant features various characters that all have their own set of unique abilities players must master. There is then Call of Duty Multiplayer, Warzone, and CS:GO, where players must rely heavily on their gun skills when facing their enemies.

On the other hand, the one shooter that took the formula and made it their own is Fortnite. As Fornite introduced building into a battle royale, the game immediately distinguished itself from the rest, introducing a technical dynamic to the game that immensely increased the depth and skill gap.

Although they are very different, many still compare these battle royales and debate which one is the most competitive. While each game has its own specifics and mechanics to work around, Fornite’s building mechanic is arguably the most technical.

Is Fortnite the most competitive shooter?

NICKMERCS weighed in on the debate through Twitter, stating that “competitive Fortnite is chess, while every other shooter is checkers.” This is a pretty controversial statement from NICKMERCS, especially since he is mainly a Warzone player now.

However, this makes his opinion all the more interesting, as it isn’t biased despite NICKMERCS being one of the biggest Fortnite streamers and competitors in the world before the release of Warzone. He definitely has enough experience competing in both games to make an informed observation.

What does NICKMERCKS mean by the statement? Playing chess, not checkers, basically means there are more dimensions to the game, more layers, and therefore skill gap. Nick is basically saying that compared to other shooters, Fortnite has more depth and technical complexity, most likely due to building.

In the final circles of competitive Fortnite, players scramble for spaces, build where they can, and edit builds to either push or defend themselves. There is a hell of a lot of depth in Fornite’s building, and it is way more complicated than the actual shooting part of the game, which is basically what other battle royal games focus more on.

Although players of other games will likely disagree, there’s no doubt that Fortnite is way more complex and technical due to the building dimension of the game that creates a huge skill gap among players, especially in a competitive setting.

That’s all for NICKMERCS comments on competitive Fortnite. For more, stay tuned on Charlie INTEL and check out the recent article on NICKMERCKS’ least favorite mode in Warzone.
