The Chicago Huntsmen are rebranding as OpTic Chicago after Hector ‘H3CZ’ Rodriguez reacquired the OpTic Gaming brand.

It has been officially announced that OpTic Chicago will be one of the 12 teams competing in CDL 2020. In a video posted to OpTic Gaming’s Twitter account on November 11, Rodriguez brandished an OpTic Gaming chain followed by the logo for OpTic Chicago.

The @OpTicGaming and @Huntsmen Twitter handles have now been changed to @OpTic and @OpTicCHI, respectively.

Story so far

H3CZ sold OpTic Gaming to Infinite Esports and Entertainment in 2017. After internal issues and OpTic then being sold to Immortals Gaming Club, H3CZ stepped away from the brand in 2019 and formed CDL Team Chicago Huntsmen with NRG.

H3CZ bought OpTic Gaming back from IGC in October which has had fans speculating that they would see the return of OpTic under H3CZ’s ownership. Further adding to speculation, Matthew ‘Nadeshot’ Haag bought OpTic Gaming’s Los Angeles CDL spot for his own team the LA Thieves.

With H3CZ then owning both OpTic and the Chicago Huntsmen, he made the decision to create OpTic Chicago.

OpTic Chicago

“OpTic Gaming has always been a part of me, and I’m glad that it has finally returned home to our fans,” said H3CZ.

On H3CZ’s personal Twitter account, he tweeted out a video of him wearing his OpTic gaming chain for the first time since he officially left OpTic.

This will see OpTic alumni Seth ‘Scump’ Abner and Matthew ‘FormaL’ Piper returning to the team. Scump and FormaL were part of the OpTic team that won the World Championship in 2017.

Brandon ‘Dashy’ Otell will also return after recently leaving OpTic for Huntsmen and Dylan ‘Envoy’ Hannon will join OpTic for the first time.

OpTic Chicago will remain in association with NRG and the San Francisco Shock Overwatch team.

With The Huntsmen having gained a strong social media following, it’s possible the Huntsmen brand will continue in some capacity.
