Overwatch 2 dev advises players save Comp points for highly requested Gold weapon change
Blizzard EntertainmentOverwatch 2 Season 9 is upon us, which brings a ton of changes to core gameplay and Competitive Play. Originally, devs intended to phase out how Competitive Points are used for Golden Guns, but that seems to have changed.
The Overwatch 2 community has had some strong reactions to the latest patch notes. One of the issues that has been brought up is how the Jade weapons seem to be replacing Gold weapons, and that it would be a lot more difficult to save up Competitive Points for Gold weapons you don’t have yet.
Originally, and for Season 9 still, Competitive Points earned before and during Season 8 would turn into Legacy Competitive points that could be used to purchase Gold weapons. From there, leftover Competitive points from the end of each year would turn into Legacy Competitive points.
Fans were not happy with this change, with some stating that they want the same opportunity to get Gold weapons as they do Jade.
It seems that the Overwatch 2 devs have listened to the community’s plight, as an X post by Game Director Aaron Keller addressed a change. “We’re working on the ability for players to buy Golden Weapons with the new, 2024 Competitive Currency,” he said.
Keller then advised players to hold on to their Competitive points they earn in this season, as the change could come as soon as Season 10. “Currently planning on releasing the change in Season 10, but feel free to save up for Golden Weapons in the meantime,” he explained.
From what we can tell, it looks like Overwatch 2 devs are planning to have Gold and Jade weapons available with the same Competitive points. That means you will be able to purchase either Gold or Jade weapons.
We can probably assume that this change will also apply to any weapon skins that are added in future. When an update arrives, though, we will be sure to let you know what’s happening.
