Overwatch 2 Invasion update: Null Sector explained

Overwatch 2 Season 6 will revolve around a new Null Sector uprising and how the heroes from the Overwatch team are called back to action to face this new threat. Here’s what you need to know about Null Sector in the Overwatch 2 Invasion update.

Overwatch 2 Season 6 brings a new backstory for its controversial PvE mode, which explains the new uprising of Null Sector. In order to stop them, old and new Overwatch team members join forces and get ready to face strange mecha-like enemies.

Overwatch 2 Season 6 begins with this world-scale invasion from Null Sector, but this isn’t the first time that we see them interrupting the peace in Overwatch’s lore. Here’s what we know about them in the Overwatch 2 Invasion update.

Overwatch 2 Invasion: Null Sector background

Overwatch 2 Null Sector is a dangerous Omnic terrorist group, that is known for using violent methods to achieve what they call ‘Omnic rights’. Omnics are what Overwatch calls artificially intelligent robots, but are as sentient as human beings.

Null Sector’s first appearance was in the Overwatch Archives event of 2017. Players could face them with Overwatch Uprising PvE mode, along with Overwatch Retribution. Both game modes retell the story of Null Sector’s uprising on the streets of King’s Row. The extremist Omnic group has then appeared in every Overwatch Archive event.

In Overwatch 2: Invasion, Null Sector is back again after being called by their leader who has launched a worldwide attack to exterminate human beings and kidnap every Omnic that is not aligned with their ideals.

Ramattra is the brutal leader of Null Sector, which was introduced in Overwatch 2 in December, 2022. He’s a tank hero that was built as a war machine, although he rebelled against his purpose.

Ramattra then became a monk, studying with different masters for years and trying to understand how to achieve peace between Omnics and humans. According to his backstory, Ramattra couldn’t handle the discrimination against his race and later created Null Sector.

Null Sector’s mission in Overwatch 2 is to dominate humans and Omnics alike, in order to establish ‘peace’ through violent terrorist attacks.

Overwatch 2 Null Sector in Season 6 update

Overwatch 2: Invasion will include three Story Missions in PvE mode where players will meet with Null Sector’s fully renewed forces. The terrorist group is called back to action by its leader Ramattra, who has launched a massive attack in order to conquer humanity.

In Overwatch 2 “Calling” animated short, we can see how Null Sector has organized into cells in order to plan their attacks, and authorities are actively trying to stop them without much success.
